Exclusive Interview with Honey Made

Music's Week: What has been most challenging aspect of your current release “Ashy Pockets (My Mode)”?
Honey Made:
Probably finding a genre to put it in. That’s usually a problem with most of our songs because we don’t really fit into one specific box. We love to keep the audience on their toes throughout our songs. Once you think you have it figured out we take you somewhere else.

Music's Week: Do you think you inspire other people through your music? How so?
Honey Made:
I would think so. Our music doesn’t focus on gettin’ paper, boasting about women, party culture, or fantasy life? Our music is about things we go through in everyday. Ashy Pockets (My Mode) stories the battle between being yourself and being a corporate robot.  We all know that feeling of playing the role for the man, putting on that fake smile, and not being able to really be yourself. The day to day grind and sacrifices to make ends meet. We’re going through it with you, and want to give you a soundtrack that helps survive this crazy trip called life.

Music's Week: How would you describe your work style?
Honey Made:
Collaborative. We’re a 9-piece band and everyone gets a say on each song. Ideas usually start with a couple guys getting the backbone, main melody, and arrangement in their home studio. Then, it moves to the practice room where things really get cooking.  That’s where the song comes to life by having each player add their personal flavor to the written parts. We then may add a bridge, pre-chorus, or whatever we feel is needed to complete the song. Lyrics are usually the last thing added.

Music's Week: Describe your experience recording the song "Ashy Pockets (My Mode)"?
Honey Made:
It was different than our usual process because it’s a remix of the original from our previous Ep, “Couple Few”.  We wanted the energy that ends the original to be the main musical theme. We also wanted to make this one more radio friendly by changing up the lyrics. This is the only song we’ve recorded that was created in the studio sessions. We had an idea for the new arrangement and that was about it. The lyrics that made the cut on the track were re-written during the vocal session, which out of the ordinary we actually recorded first. We then started cutting parts from the original version and adding new parts over about a month. Throw in a few mixing sessions to bring out the heaviness and grit and boom! Ashy Pockets (My Mode).

Music's Week: What is your process in composing your song?
Honey Made:
See question 3

Music's Week: What social media platforms work well for increasing the reach of your content?
Honey Made:
The main platforms we use are Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and X. We’re just now getting into TikTok.

Music's Week: How did your unique sound come about?
Honey Made:
It came about from our band members. We’re all from different backgrounds and generations, but we all love good music. It can be soul, R&B, rock, latin, whatever. As long as it’s good we’re rocking with it. We’ve all been classically trained as well so we  know what it takes to make a song as an ensemble. Egos must be left at the door for the good of the song.

Music's Week: Your song "Ashy Pockets (My Mode)", did you wis you had done something differently? Or have you changed as a person and would change styles/lyrics now?
Honey Made:
No. I love the new life we were able to breathe into the song. It was a cool experience to take an old idea and create something fresh.

Music's Week: What are your music goals for this year, and how are you working towards achieving them?
Honey Made:
First we'll be releasing an official music video of Ashy Pockets (My Mode) and more content from “Charge It to the Band Fund’. We already have new material that we're working on for the next project and plan to release a couple singles from those later in the year. We're looking to continue playing live shows outside of Austin in a city near you and hitting the festival circuit. We are always working to grow our fan base and that includes our digital and streaming audience.

We would also love to play at more colleges and universities. We really connect with college students when given the opportunity. We had a great reception at the APCA (Association for Promotion of Campus Activities) Southern Conference in October of this year.We are a really good live band and want to keep live shows as much as possible.  Bread ‘n’ Butta.
