MONROE, La. — 3DCam is an old-school hip hop singer, born and raised on the mean streets of Monroe, Louisiana and spinning singles from off the top of his head.

His single, “Business Man” from his “No Skips” EP from 2022 sort of sets the theme of his music, and his newest album, called “Humble” expands on that theme.

“Humble” is a 12-song album that was released in October and has singles with names like “I Got Plans,” and “Revenue,” and “Time Management,” and “Won’t Ever Stop.”

Videos for songs such as “Pop out,” Fresh & Stuck,” and “Revenue,” as well as “Business Man” and many others can be found on 3DCam’s Youtube page.

The music features strong and poetic lyrics with a punchy beat that’s easy to move too and relatable melodies drawn from 3DCam’s own life experiences. He grew up the middle child with two brothers and two sisters in his mom’s family.

“It’s really about my life, just trying to get the money to make it, just trying to get the funds to do what I want to do with life,” 3DCam said. “You’ve got to spend money to make money. I was in my room, most of it came off the top of my head. I can’t really explain how it came about, it was how I was feeling at the time.”

3DCam said he listened to music as a kid and he loved to freestyle every once in a while, but he really started taking it seriously after he got out of college at Jackson State University.

“I loved all types of music but I didn’t make music as a kid,” he said. “I’d freestyle from time to time but I never took it seriously or put it on a track. I just played around with it. That gift was always deep down. When I left college I was like I need some money and and I need a plan. I was good at music so I said might as well try it.”

3DCam said much of his music comes from him freestyling with a beat but he’ll take some of his freestyle tracks and put them to paper to make sure he’s getting to his meaning.

“I freestyle and write on some songs,” he said. “I freestyle the whole song sometimes and I write the whole song sometimes. It depends on how I’m feeling. I’ve got to say I like freestyle the best. When I’m in my zone I just go. But I like writing too. It’s really kind of neck and neck because I can really get into detail when I write. You can really see how I’m feeling, and you can feel it. Freestyling is just getting at what’s coming off the top of my head.”

3DCam said the environment where he grew up in Monroe, La., definitely shaped his music.

“I was just an average kid growing up in the hood, you know how that goes, there were guns around, you’ve got kids and guns, you’ve got drugs, it was a bad environment,” he said. “A lot of different people too on the street. Music is kind of like therapy for me. I can put how I feel into a song, let the world know how I feel.”

3DCam said the message in most of his songs is encouraging people to take care of themselves, and be themselves.

“The message is really about focusing on yourself, bossing up, trying to make better for you. You give a part of you to get better,” he said. “It’s also about being on a mission. Cutting through all the BS to get what you want to get. It’s about embracing me. It’s about embracing what’s around me, where I'm living at.
