Up-and-coming musician and producer, Robert Frier—otherwise known as Frier—revitalizes Neo-soul with fresh single, “Magic.”

Robert Frier’s unique sound is an impactful combination of Neo-soul and life experience. Neo-soul stems from 1970s soul music with a dash of jazz, funk, hip hop, R&B, and African music.

Frier’s version features a robust, emotive voice that brings his thoughtful lyrics to life with flawless production.

“When I first created the song, I tried to have something that was kind of singular,” shares Robert Frier. “Have you ever gone to a show where you see people making sounds with whatever they have around them? There’s an earthy feel to it—stomping on the floor, clapping. I was thinking of the contributions that people make to the community in spite of everything going on around us. People from impoverished neighborhoods with less still making their way. The black community can do anything—it’s magical. Once we put our minds to accomplishing, anything is possible.”

Robert Frier found his lifelong passion for music at a young age. “Ever since I was little, my family was heavily involved in music. It’s just one of those things—I grew up around it. It was a natural fit for me to gravitate toward it,” shares the artist. The artist credits family influences as the catalyst to pursuing a career in music.

Not only did Frier grow up surrounded by music, but he also dove in of his own accord, picking up the piano first, then the drums, then the violin, and, finally, the trumpet. “I always gravitated toward the piano,” adds the artist. This should come as no surprise since Frier lists John Legend as one of his greatest influences. Other notable musical influences include Bryan McKnight, Take 6, and Boys II Men, particularly their harmonies.

A storyteller who enjoys exploring the human experience, Frier is introspective, lacing meaning into catchy lyrics. When it comes to writing music, Frier’s creative process varies. “Wherever my energy is at the moment is how I write. Sometimes it’s a beat in my head. Sometimes it comes from something I’ve heard. The piano is typically the last thing that comes unless it’s a melody I’m trying to get out of my head.”

Frier is also a producer. In his next musical venture, he’s looking forward to focusing on producing and collaborating with other artists.
