A Vessel for His Environment, Kasade Releases New EP, Lost Cause

Rapper Kasade brings real-life experience to the centerstage in his upcoming EP, Lost Cause, out January 19, 2024.

The Pontiac, Michigan-based artist is a “real entertainment enthusiast” who enjoys putting on a show. His moniker is a play on cascade—“like cascading diamonds”—mixed with his name, Keonte, and with the same number of letters. Kasade’s passion for music began at a young age. “I’ve been into a lot of artistic things from a young age,” adds Kasade. “My introduction to real rap was my brother. Back in the day, there were websites for live mixtapes—a non-radio, underground music scene. My brother stayed in tune with it, so as a kid being around that music, it molded the music I do today. I knew from 10 or 11 that I would pursue music.”

Kasade thrives on his versatility. “I can dive into different genres. My style is a result of growing up with a lot of different artists. Me, my brother, and friends would listen to artists who are big now, like J. Cole and Big Sean.”

Lost Cause is a six-track EP featuring Kasade’s most recent release, “Madeline.”  “A lot of my songs don’t have choruses,” shares the rapper. “I’m just rapping. For me, it’s about the word play. I don’t need to focus on a catchy tune replaying in someone’s head.” The namesake single, “Lost Cause,” is a key example: “The single is about the mindset, ‘show me you can rap.’ It’s just me rapping about a multitude of things, showcasing my talent on that one.”

The EP features the following tracks: “Glimpse,” a “showcase of artistic expression”; “Adrenaline,” painting a “scene from the past”; “Reserved Seats,” reflecting “strong words from a weak mind" and “Interlude,” which marks “a dive into desperation.”

When all is said and done, what Kasade wants most is to be known as a storyteller. “My content is based on my environment. I’m a vessel for my environment.”

“I’m a writer but can freestyle as well,” tells Kasade. His approach to creating music generally begins with the beat. “I hear the beat and it strikes me with what to say. I’m really driven by the beat. I like being an instrument for the producer. Whatever they did when they created the beat—I want to convey that feeling to the listener.”
