Texas-based rapper and singer-songwriter, Kiyonce Jackson—otherwise known as General Ki—isn’t shy in her new single “Talking My Shit.” The fresh single is designed to make people feel comfortable owning their story—and telling it, too.
“What inspired me to write ‘Talking My Shit’ was where I been and where it is I’m trying to get to. There were a lot of people who didn’t believe in what I had going on and who still don’t believe in it today,” shares General Ki. “This song just helped me push my motive out more by letting everyone know who it is that I am and the talent I got. I do have plans to release more music in these upcoming months that I can’t wait to release.”
“What I speak in my music is something to make everyone feel good about themselves,” adds General Ki. “People are closed off today because so much judgement is being passed about people to make them not want to show their true selves. I want my listeners to know it's okay to go through what they’re going through. I want them to show up, show out, and love themselves. There are some beautiful people in this world who I know I can't even compare myself to on any scale. But what that's not going to do is stop me from showing up, showing out, and talking my shit. I want people to see and relate to me.”
For General Ki, inspiration comes from life, but her biggest muse is her mother. ““One of my biggest influences is my mother. She alone has taught me so much, and a lot of what I’ve been able to accomplish she made possible and that’s something I couldn’t be more thankful for. Music was always something I had a connection to since I was younger. I spent a lot of my free time just writing songs and poems. I also plan on doing live shows soon, because that’s something that definitely gets my blood rushing. My music was something that got me through everything I’ve endured. I hope that my music is something that the public takes a liking to, that fans can relate and have understanding of.”
Music has been a part of Kiyonce Jackson’s life for as long as she can remember. “I love writing, because it's a passion for me and it has always been,” tells General Ki. “It starts with a word and before I know it, I got a whole track. I love the process of creating music from the time to the dedication. From starting with nothing to watching it blossom into something greater. From the process of working with producers like ApeShit Productions to the final product, all the way to seeing my track being judged online for what it is.”
“All my music talks about what I been through, as well as my thoughts and feelings,” shares General Ki. “I want listeners to know, no matter where you come from you can still achieve it if you want it bad enough. I make music that people can relate to, something they can vibe to. Older, younger, my age, it doesn't matter.”
“Talking My Shit” is the artist’s most recent release and a follow up to her 2022 song “Genie,” as well as three other 2023 releases. This year, General Ki is gearing up to release more music, which she can’t wait to share with fans.
