Exclusive Interview with Sasha Friedman

Music's Week Staff: What has been most challenging aspect of your current release “Free To Be Me”?
Sasha Friedman: My most challenging aspect during the “Free To Be Me” release was having to battle bone cancer. Shortly after I recorded the single I was diagnosed and had to go through having 3 ribs removed, chemo, and radiation. My fingertips peeled off not allowing me to play my piano or guitar. It was a difficult time, but it made me realize the hard road and challenges that so many people have and how much music can get you through it.

Music's Week Staff: Do you think you inspire other people through your music? How so?
Sasha Friedman:
YES! I hope my music tells people “you got this”, “you be you and it will work out”. It will do so through encouragement and through showing others I am here for you.

Music's Week Staff: How would you describe your work style?
Sasha Friedman:
I like to go-go-go, I would rather sing for 10 hours then take a break than taking many breaks in between. Especially if mom lets me have a vanilla late, my favorite.

Music's Week Staff: Describe your experience recording the song "Free To Be Me"?
Sasha Friedman:
The beat was produced by my amazing producers Little Bird Big Sound, then they sent the beat to me. I created a story to the beat, based on something I experienced. I saw a kid trying to fit into a group, the group was not very nice to the kid and I thought to myself this is a pretty cool kid, I hope they know that. I hope they know they are free to be themselves and that’s cool, its cool to someone.

Music's Week Staff: What is your process in composing your song?
Sasha Friedman:
Always a story. My next single is “Memory Tonight” and it will take you down your own memory lane. It’s a story. The next is “There for you”, again a story but this time me speaking directly to you. “AI” is going to be so amazing, its about AI and a robot who is awakened.

Music's Week Staff: What social media platforms work well for increasing the reach of your content?
Sasha Friedman:
Instagram has been so fun to grow, it is amazing that you can talk to someone via chat who lives across the world. Spotify and Apple music ofcourse allows me to share my voice. And ofcourse platforms such as Music Week and many other publications who allow me to share my story, thank you for that.

Music's Week Staff: How did your unique sound come about?
Sasha Friedman:
I LOVE all kinds of music, Freddie Mercury is a big inspiration, I was singing him when I was 2. Bob Marley, Ariana, Taylor, Jazz, Rap, POP, it is all so inspirational.

Music's Week Staff: Your song "Free To Be Me", did you wish you had done something differently? Or have you changed as a person and would change styles/lyrics now?
Sasha Friedman:
I recorded  “Free To Be Me” when I was 9. Listening to it, I am so young. I know im only 11 now, but I think with my next song you will see how much I have grown. People say I have much soul in my voice now and my music has grown with me.

Music's Week Staff: What are your music goals for this year, and how are you working towards achieving them?
Sasha Friedman:
This year is wrapping up the first album and I am so excited to search for a band to do live shows.

Music's Week Staff: Where can potential fans find out more about you?
Sasha Friedman:
@officialSashF on Instagram and on Spotify and other music platforms under “Sasha Friedman” and “Free to be me”. Thank you so much MusicWeek, you guys rock!
