MusicsWeek: When did you start making music?
Phoenix Rein: Around 8 years old I started making up songs.
MusicsWeek: What inspired you to become an artist?
Phoenix Rein: I was watching a live performance of the late great Whitney Houston and said 'wow I want to sing like her one day.' Her voice is excellent.
MusicsWeek: Who are your biggest musical influences?
Phoenix Rein: I was influenced by a plethora of artists from different genres. From Gospel, R&B, Soul, Pop, Dance, Reggae, Dancehall, and Ska to singers like Shirley Caesar, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey James Brown, Rick James, Micheal Jackson, Nina Simone, Eta James, Cher, Beres Hammond, Bob Marley, and more.
MusicsWeek: What’s your favorite song you’ve written so far?
Phoenix Rein: Spinning Around because it speaks about falling in love romantically and musically. I’m a sucker for romance.
MusicsWeek: How would you describe your music style in a few words?
Phoenix Rein: A little Jazzy with a touch of blues and a major push of soulful R&B.
MusicsWeek: What’s the best part about being an artist?
Phoenix Rein: The fans. When they listen to the music, I want them to feel like they are not alone and that my music speaks to everyone from all walks of life. It inspires me and keeps me going when the music touches someone.
MusicsWeek: Do you prefer recording in the studio or performing live?
Phoenix Rein: I like both. The effort, care, loyalty love, and dedication that goes into putting together the masterpiece is like a sandwich. Then being able to perform live.
I’m in an anything that goes kinda vibe. I feel the energy of the band and the fans and I’m just free, we’re all free.
MusicsWeek: What’s one dream venue you’d love to perform at?
Phoenix Rein: I honestly cannot wait to sell out Scotiabank Arena In Toronto, yeah that would be fun.
MusicsWeek: What’s the next big goal for your music career?
Phoenix Rein: The next big goal hahaha! Wow!!!! I want to share as much of my music as possible; to release more music in the world and maybe an album and a tour around the world.
