Artist Spotlight: Natura Vitae
Natura Vitae, an artist collective, are holistic and multidimensional cultivators. Originally founded by Jennifer Legnini, whose background spans art, music, anthropology, design, and agriculture, she embodies what it means to live and create seasonally, with an emphasis on harmony and interconnectedness.
We sat down with Natura Vitae to talk about their creative journey, inspirations, and what’s next.
MusicsWeek: Who are your biggest musical influences?
Natura Vitae: Susan Tedeschi; Big Brother and the Holding Company; Johnny Cash
MusicsWeek: What non-musical influences (books, movies, art, etc.) inspire your work?
Natura Vitae: John Phillip Newell: Sacred Earth, Sacred Soul
MusicsWeek: Is there a particular song or album that has significantly influenced your career?
Natura Vitae: Will the Circle be Unbroken, all volumes.
MusicsWeek: How do your personal experiences shape your music?
Natura Vitae: It's been decades of long hours in the working kitchen and doing farm chores - music almost always on, and changes from putting music on for myself or learning about other music from coworkers.
MusicsWeek: Have your influences changed over the years?
Natura Vitae: Yes - the more I listen, the more it influences me.
MusicsWeek: How do you incorporate your cultural background into your music?
Natura Vitae: Living in the United States, there are so many styles, methods, and types of music, people, and from all over the world; I've lived rurally in small towns and in cities, and am inspired by all genres in some way or another. I come from a farm and country background near Philadelphia. Country and hip hop have always been a big influence, and I'm always exploring how to incorporate this experience.
MusicsWeek: What role does nature or your environment play in your songwriting?
Natura Vitae: The essential role of inspiration!
MusicsWeek: When did you first realize you wanted to be a musician?
Natura Vitae: Over the years, meeting many artists and musicians at work, working on farms and in restaurant and cafe kitchens - collaborating on ideas and meeting up after work to make things come together with the different skills and talents people can pool together.
MusicsWeek: What was the first song you ever wrote, and what inspired it?
Natura Vitae: I co-wrote lyrics; the first one was Reflections of Fire, released in December 2024.
MusicsWeek: How did you get started in the music industry?
Natura Vitae: Having projects in pieces and bringing them together to full songs, just learning as i go how to share them with others.
