Artist Spotlight: Nicole Huff
Actress, singer, dancer, and entrepreneur Nicole Huff is making waves in the music world with her new single “Entice Me Baby,” featured on her debut EP Who We Are. With its nostalgic 2000s dance-pop energy, the track showcases Nicole’s multifaceted talent and her passion for performance, blending infectious melodies with dynamic harmonies that highlight her artistic range.
In this exclusive Q&A, Nicole Huff opens up about the stories behind the music, lessons learned along the way, and what keeps their passion alive.
MusicsWeek: How did you get started in music?
Nicole Huff: I got started when I was 6 years old, joining musical theatre shows, doing voice lessons, piano lessons, and guitar lessons. I would do songs and dances during dance competitions and join singing competitions. As I got a little older, I fell in love with pop music and learned how to sing it. After I booked some acting roles, I started posting videos online of me singing, and my music producer reached out to me asking if I was interested in making music. That’s how it all started!
MusicsWeek: What inspired you to become a musician?
Nicole Huff: The performers I grew up listening to and watching inspired me. Music has always been such a big part of my life, and I love how you can express yourself in different ways through music.
MusicsWeek: Can you tell us a bit about your background and upbringing?
Nicole Huff: I grew up singing karaoke with my family at home and listening to Celine Dion in the car with my mom or rock music and Elvis with my dad. I was such a big Hilary Duff fan as a kid. It was a dream come true when I was a child model for her clothing line. I wanted to be like her and do what she’s doing. I choreographed a dance to her song “What Dreams Are Made of” and performed it at a talent pageant once. Arts and entertainment have always been such a huge part of my life.
MusicsWeek: What's your favorite memory related to music?
Nicole Huff: I think working on my music. I fell in love with the process. It’s so much fun being creative and watching your music and performance come together with the instruments, production and dance choreography. Releasing it and getting to share it with everyone was a fun experience. I hope it keeps reaching more and more people.
MusicsWeek: What's your biggest passion outside of music?
Nicole Huff: I love acting and storytelling. Being on set and meeting new people who share your passion is a fun experience, and getting to be a part of a TV show or movie is always an incredible experience. I hope to do more of that in the future and one day do another fun role where singing and dancing are involved.
MusicsWeek: How do you stay motivated and inspired?
Nicole Huff: I love what I do, so it’s easy for me to stay motivated and inspired. It can be challenging sometimes, but my love and passion for the arts keep me wanting to move forward and keep going. It can be a difficult industry full of rejection, but there are so many amazing life life-changing opportunities as well.
MusicsWeek: What's your favorite song to play live?
Nicole Huff: I love performing my song, “Entice Me Baby”! The choreography is fun, and especially performing with dancers is fun because it brings a lot of energy.
MusicsWeek: What's your creative process like when writing songs?
Nicole Huff: For 4 songs on my EP, I worked with a cowriter who is incredible. I’d tell him what kind of song I want to write. He then started playing some chord progressions until I found something I liked. We’d then start writing from there. When Roy Hamilton III and I worked on “(I Got That) Boom Boom”, I just had to focus on the vocals as he wrote the song for Britney Spears originally and took care of the production for my remix.
MusicsWeek: Do you have a favorite album or artist that influences your work?
Nicole Huff: I have so many. Probably Britney Spears is my ultimate favourite performer.
MusicsWeek: What's the most challenging part of being a musician?
Nicole Huff: I would say getting heard and adapting to an ever-changing industry. Everything is always evolving, and this is my first time making music and my first EP, so I had to learn and still continue to learn as the journey progresses.
