Artist Spotlight: Beck Martin

His successful audition—described online as the “best X Factor audition in history, ever”—carried him to a prestigious opportunity to open the X Factor Finals in front of 10,000 people. Now, Martin is back with a new song, “It’s About Friday Night.” Fans of The X Factor performances will find the song to be a fresh take on familiar themes.

Pulling back the curtain, Beck Martin shares what fuels their artistry, the pressure of legacy, and the joy of creating something timeless.

MusicsWeek: Who are the artists or albums that really made you want to make music?

Beck Martin:
Scooter, 24 karat gold. Also, 2 Unlimited. David Guetta and his production.

MusicsWeek: Do you feel like your influences have changed as you’ve grown as an artist?

Beck Martin:
Yes, I am still influenced by acts like Scooter, but recently I love trance as well. Armin van Buuren is also a great influence.

MusicsWeek: How does your cultural background show up in your music—whether in lyrics, melodies, or vibe?

Beck Martin:
My cultural background definitely can be heard in Friday Night, the track that was promoted on X Factor. It kinda reflects our Friday nights and fact that lot of things are accepted as norm.

MusicsWeek: Was there a moment when you realized, “I want to do this for my life”?

Beck Martin:
The moment I realised was when I was privileged to open X Factor finals, Wembley Arena in 2016. The feeling of having 10 000 people hyped up for you is priceless.

MusicsWeek: What’s the first song you ever wrote, and what inspired it?

Beck Martin:
The first song I wrote was Friday night. I got inspired by my early days of work/going out cycle. We used to enjoy life a lot so it was like a reminder how my Friday nights usually looked like and what I loved.

MusicsWeek: Did you have a mentor or someone early on who really shaped your approach to music? What did they teach you?

Beck Martin:
My mother worked in music label she kinda shaped what to do and how does it work behind the scenes with music labels. My approach is definitely based on the fact people love high energy tracks. I been taught a lot about what could work and resonate with people, the most successful bands and their approach and so on. I owe thanks to my mom.

MusicsWeek: Every artist has that one song that means a lot to them—what’s the story behind yours?

Beck Martin:
The track that means to me so much would be my own Friday night as it is not only a reminder of great nights but also it got me to the X factor where nicole scherzinger danced to it as well as Simon Cowell and rest of the judges and production crew. It was also bootcamp theme so I was truly humbled and everything the song has been used for has got really special place.

MusicsWeek: What’s something about you that most fans wouldn’t guess just by looking at you?

Beck Martin:
Ironically, I sing a lot about drinking and having a time of my life over the weekend but those are early stages or my life. I’m quite frankly sober and focused on work and running a business and making things happen. So it’s ironic that I’ve spent most of my life sober. But the gimmick definitely worked. I’m proud.

MusicsWeek: When people listen to your music years from now, what do you hope they take away from it?

Beck Martin:
I hope they’ll take away smiles and happiness, joy, ideally they will see a landscape they don’t want to leave - like ever because the beats and lyrics take them to a far away dreamy land.

MusicsWeek: Looking back on everything you’ve done so far, which moment or achievement are you most proud of?

Beck Martin:
Being charted artist after X factor finals or going viral on social media for 9th year straight is something I’m definitely proud of and I hope more and more people discover the real me. Thank you all.
