BTS Playfully Tease Member Over Spicy ‘Hot Ones’ Struggle

The members of BTS might not be lining up for a second round on Hot Ones anytime soon, mainly because of how intense Sean Evans’ lineup of spicy wings turned out to be.

RM, j-hope, Jin, SUGA, V, Jung Kook and Jimin all took part in the episode that premiered Thursday, April 9, setting a new record for the most guests featured at once. With seven members plus the host, the table held a total of 80 wings, making it the largest spread the show has ever seen. As Evans joked when announcing their appearance, “We’ve got seven chairs, seven sets of wings. Including me, that is 80 wings on the table, a Hot Ones record.”

With everyone involved, it quickly became clear how differently each member handled the infamous “wings of death.” RM started sweating heavily before even reaching the halfway point, which led to some playful teasing from the group. “Your body crying,” Jung Kook joked. At one point, V and Jimin tried to dab his face with napkins, even as RM brushed it off, saying, “What’s up, guys? Nothing’s wrong. I’m fine.”

Meanwhile, j-hope reacted in his own way by suddenly dancing once the heat kicked in, prompting Evans to encourage him with, “Dance it out.” Jin took a simpler approach, sticking his tongue out and shouting, “Ah!” over and over. SUGA stayed calm for most of the challenge, though near the end he admitted, “I’m feeling dizzy.”

Jimin kept things upbeat as the spice levels climbed, cheering himself on before every bite with, “Come on, wing!” and lifting the mood for everyone else. Jung Kook handled the heat fairly well but became overwhelmed toward the end, jokingly telling everyone around him to be quiet even though no one was saying anything.

“This is illegal,” RM said as sweat ran down his face, speaking to Evans. “It should be prohibited by the law.”

The episode arrived the same day BTS launched their massive world tour with a major performance at Goyang Stadium in South Korea. After two additional shows there, the group will continue across North America, Europe, Latin America and other regions in Asia throughout the year.

During their time on Hot Ones, BTS also talked about the tour, Jin’s passion for fishing, SUGA’s history as an underground rapper and their favorite anime songs. They also shared how they narrowed down more than 100 songs to finalize their Billboard 200 chart topping album ARIRANG, with V explaining, “We each had a lot of opinions.”

“To put it simply, we all gathered in one place and listened to all the songs, from track No. 1 to track 100,” Jung Kook said. “We’d discuss while we listened. ‘How is this?’ or ’Thoughts on this.’ Almost in a pure fashion.”

“And if I remember correctly, we had a point scoring system,” V added.
