Cher has once again moved to obtain conservatorship over the estate of her son Elijah Blue Allman.
The Believe singer first requested a temporary conservatorship for her 49 year old son’s estate in December 2023, arguing that Allman was unable to properly care for himself or handle his finances due to reported issues with substance use.
At the time, Allman’s lawyers pushed back against the request, stating he was “clean and sober,” and Cher later withdrew the petition herself in September 2024.
Now, after a series of recent legal incidents, the music icon is seeking to have a temporary conservator appointed, with fiduciary Jason Rubin named to oversee Allman’s financial matters.
“The life of Elijah Allman (‘proposed conservatee’) has significantly deteriorated since a prior conservatorship petition was filed in 2023,” the latest filing states, submitted to Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week.
“The proposed conservatee is currently in custody in the State of New Hampshire in a locked psychiatric hospital in an attempt to restore him to competency to face criminal charges in two cases across two New Hampshire counties for: felony burglary criminal mischief, simple assault, criminal trespass and breach of bail, but that is just the current set of problems.”
Court documents obtained by Page Six claim that Allman receives $120,000 (£88,000) annually from a trust established by his late father Gregg Allman, but allegedly spends the money quickly without considering his responsibilities or personal welfare.
Cher’s team stated that her son “has no concept of money, is unable to manage his financial resources and is unable to withstand fraud or undue influence” due to what they described as “severe mental health and addiction issues.”
Her legal representatives also argued that he has “no ability to manage money” and uses it “almost exclusively” on drugs, luxury hotels and limousine services.
This renewed legal effort follows closely after Allman was taken into custody twice within a three day period in New Hampshire.
He was accused of two counts of trespassing, simple assault and disorderly conduct after allegedly causing a disturbance at a boarding school in late February, and later faced charges of burglary, two counts of criminal mischief and breach of bail after reportedly entering a private residence on 1 March. He remains in custody in the state.
In the filing, the If I Could Turn Back Time singer also noted that it would be “appropriate” to pursue conservatorship over Allman’s personal affairs once he returns to California, as she claims he is “gravely disabled.”
