Doja Cat has admitted she was left heartbroken after her scheduled performance at Primavera Sound was called off because of severe weather conditions on Thursday evening.
Festival organisers in Barcelona, Spain announced shortly before showtime that several major performances, including sets from Doja Cat, Massive Attack and Bad Gyal, would no longer take place. The decision was made because of safety concerns linked to worsening weather conditions.
Appearing on Instagram Live while already dressed in her stage outfit and performance makeup, the "Paint the Town Red" star spoke directly to fans about the disappointing news.
"The weather was not gonna get any better. I didn't know that. I don't think anybody really, truly knew how bad it was gonna get, but it got bad. And it got bad on the wrong day," she said. "I really wanted to see you guys tonight and I love you so much. I do."
She added, "I'm absolutely crushed and torn to pieces about the whole thing."
Doja Cat, whose real name is Amala Dlamini, became emotional as she addressed those who had been waiting to see her perform.
"I know it's not my fault, like yeah, it's the weather, but I'm sorry. I really wanted to give you a great show tonight," she continued, her voice breaking. "I will be back, and I'm gonna come back with a fire that you've never seen. And I'm gonna come back with my heart as big as it can be."
At one point during the livestream, she showed fans a close up view of her face, revealing tears running through her stage makeup.
The 30 year old singer also shared a message on X, writing, "Barcelona i am fully dressed and ready to go to stage but it's just not safe enough to continue the show tonight. I'm so sorry that this is how this s**t has to be right now. I will think of everything I can under the sun to make it up to you. Please stay safe and warm I will see you again I promise."
In a statement released on Friday, organisers explained that the headline performances, along with earlier sets from Alex G and Mac DeMarco, were cancelled because weather conditions made it impossible to ensure public safety. Heavy rain and strong winds were cited as the main concerns, and ticket holders for Thursday's event will receive refunds.
Primavera Sound, which takes place at Parc del Fòrum along Barcelona's waterfront, continues on Friday with performances from The Cure, Addison Rae, PinkPantheress and Skrillex.
