Taylor Swift appeared to join forces with The Empire State Building to drop a mysterious hint about what could be her next project on Thursday (20.08.26).
The famous New York landmark was illuminated in green, while its official X account shared an image of the building glowing in the color alongside the caption “WhaTS happening?”, with the capital letters appearing to spell out Taylor Swift’s initials.
Earlier in the day, fans spotted a vivid green TS symbol displayed on a black wall at an unknown location. Images of the logo quickly made their way onto social media through fan accounts.
Additional versions of the mysterious logo have reportedly surfaced at several unidentified locations in different cities. Fans also pointed out that the typography and arrangement appear different from the visual identities used for Taylor's previous albums.
The Look What You Made Me Do singer has revisited four of her first six albums through re-recordings since 2021. That leaves Reputation and her self-titled 2006 debut still waiting for their Taylor's Version releases. Some fans believe the black and green color combination could be connected to the snake imagery associated with Reputation.
One fan said the logo was “giving snake”, while another felt it looked like “a mixture of [her] debut album’s aesthetic and Reputation’s”. Other fans are convinced the clues could be pointing toward an entirely new musical era.
The Empire State Building has previously participated in Taylor-related celebrations. The landmark was illuminated orange in August 2025 in connection with The Life of a Showgirl, before being turned blue in July 2026 to celebrate her wedding to Travis Kelce.
Meanwhile, Taylor has previously called some of her fans "little weird" for using "detective work" to determine the real people she may be referencing in her music.
The Grammy winner frequently draws from her own experiences when writing songs, leading dedicated fans to closely examine her lyrics in an attempt to identify the people and situations behind them. Taylor has compared that level of speculation to something resembling a "paternity test".
Speaking to New York Magazine, she said: "There’s corners of my fanbase that are going to take things to a really extreme place.
"There’s nothing that I can do about that. There’s people who are going to try to like, do detective work, figure out the details - who is that about? What is this?
"When it gets a little bit weird for me is when people act like it’s sort of like a paternity test. Like: 'This song’s about this person.' Because I’m like: 'That dude didn’t write the song. I did'."
Even so, Taylor insists that she does not allow other people's "perception" of her music to determine how she feels about her own work.
She added: "You have to hold tight to your perception of your art and your relationship with it, and then you just have to [think]: 'There it goes, hope you like it! If you don’t now, hope you do in five years! And if you never do, then I was doing it for me anyway'."
