T.W.M Releases “Spirit Sound,” Showcasing a New Genre Fusing Indie-Folk with Hip Hop Elements

BALTIMORE - Following a five-year hiatus, T.W.M has returned to the music scene after discovering his spirit sound that blends multiple genres to create T.W.M’s unique sound. Dropping an album named “Spirit Sound,” T.W.M reveals his signature style, born after a profound realization and personal growth after a period of creative repression.

“I come from a community where self-expression is not highly valued. ‘Spirit Sound’ represents an escape from that,” said T.W.M. “I’ve listened to my inner spirit and boldly created something that I’ve not had the courage to do in the past. I’ve done this on this record, and I will continue to do it for my own good and to inspire others to live the fullest version of themselves.”

Spirit sound is generated when T.W.M sets poetic lyrics within a moody, atmospheric soundscape. Vocally, he uses indie-folk influences and trap/alternative R&B production styles.

Before his music hiatus, T.W.M recorded under the name Tom Moore. He gained popularity in central Florida for his indie-folk tunes. Currently, T.W.M has taken his previous sound and jump-started it with hip hop elements. Spirit sound was created after teaming up with Washington DC area producer J Medina.

The production brilliance of J Medina brings an 808-kick drum and sub-bass beats to T.W.M’s introspective lyrics. J Medina adds an electronic element to T.W.M’s downtempo philosophical lyrics as a hip-hop producer.

“It’s like a blank canvas,” T.W.M said, describing how spirit sound is created. “I bring in the song, and I sit back and let J do his thing. Sometimes I give suggestions, but it’s his production. My song is a vehicle for his artistic voice. That friction is what brings us to what we call spirit sound.”

“Spirit Sound” contains four tracks that must be heard to appreciate its greatness fully. Showcasing T.W.M’s poetic songwriting, singles “Mouths Make Hieroglyphics” and “Cute Concept” are packed with metaphors and deep meaning. “Own Me,” and “Bankcard” round out the “Spirit Sound” EP.

“Mouths Make Hieroglyphics” addresses the inevitable misunderstandings of communicating across cultural boundaries. “We use our mouths to communicate, but we are not being understood,” he said. “It’s like our mouths make hieroglyphics, but we can’t be heard.”

“‘Cute Concept’ is a dystopian tune about disillusionment and the loss of hope in changing anything for the better and accepting the present reality. Sometimes, anything other than that just seems like a cute little concept,” explained T.M.W.

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, T.W.M said, “I put my heart and soul into this EP. I can’t tell people to be the best version of themselves unless I’m doing it too.”

The release of “Spirit Sound” on streaming platforms is only the beginning for T.W.M. His break from music appears to have led to more profound insight into the importance of creative expression for himself and others; he said, “We [J Medina and T.W.M] have found our sound, and we are going to drive the lane.”
