Bret Michaels addresses fans after cancelling remaining 2026 shows

Bret Michaels has addressed fans for the first time since announcing that he would cancel the rest of his scheduled shows for the year.

The Poison frontman, who needed emergency surgery last month after developing kidney stones, returned to performing in Georgia on Friday. Following the concert, his doctors advised him to take several months away from the road to recover from his recent medical procedures.

On Sunday, the 63 year old musician, who lives with Type 1 diabetes, told fans that he has been working closely with his medical team to get his health back on track.

"As you know, I always choose victory over being a victim to my disease. I truly felt I would be able to do all these shows in spite of the recent medical domino effect that has occurred," he wrote on Instagram.

"Right now, I've worked diligently with my doctors and physical therapists (who have been beyond incredible) on Saturday, today and will again on Monday, adjusting all the new medication and factoring in what I did not the other day, which was the heat factor in Awesome Atlanta, and, as it was my first show back and I wanted to give every ounce of energy I had in me..."

Michaels said he had also failed to account for the impact of travelling across the country, particularly how the flight affected his blood sugar and blood pressure while he was adjusting to his "new medicine adjustments".

The singer also said he was "truly upset" that he could not appear at The Mountain Music Festival in Gatlinburg, Tennessee on Saturday. He promised fans he would make his return in either 2027 or 2028 and "make it the best show ever".

"You've gotta know that my energy and my soul really want to play music," he concluded. "Hopefully, I will get this figured out much sooner than later. If I could, I would be back out there tomorrow. Sincere love to all...stand strong, rock on and remain Unbroken!"
