PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Artist Woopie’s life was probably headed down a bad road, but when his brother was murdered, Woopie decided to pick up the baton and follow his brother into the music scene.

Woopie’s latest release, “Giving Me The Pussy,” is making waves in a unique outlet for musicians, the strip clubs.

“It’s a form of entertainment and I look at all forms of entertainment as entertainment no matter how you look at it,” Woopie said. “I’m just looking at it as a way in. It’s working too, so far so good. You’ve got to give inspiration to the ladies.”

Featuring powerful lyrics and a catchy beat, the song is popular with strip club DJs.

The video was released on Feb. 18 by Woopie’s company, Mindbased Entertainment, and features strong visuals and lots of beautiful women.

From South Philadelphia, Woopie has spent years honing his skill as a singer and song writer, following in the footsteps of his brother, Nahyer Johnson, who was tragically murdered a number of years ago.

“I had a brother that was into music and he and I invested a lot of time and energy into it,” Woopie said. “But he got tragically murdered, so instead of letting the dream and all the money I spent die, I picked the baton up.”

Woopie said he’s been working on his business skills at the same time he’s been honing his craft as a musician.

“I’ve been releasing singles for a few years, but I did not know how to break into the mainstream,” Woopie said. “Right now I’m just learning how to make money in the business and just like any business it takes money to make money. At first I had to learn where to invest my money. Now that I know where to invest my money I intend on making some. I’m hoping to push this to the point to get a distribution deal and turn it into the premier Philadelphia working label.”

Woopie said he’s a southern hip hop fan, listening to the likes of Boosie, Gucci Mane and others.

“Inspiration comes in a lot of forms,” he said. “I listen to a wide variety of artists, Jay Z and others, but I’m mostly a southern hip hop fan.”

Woopie said “Giving Me The Pussy” will be one of 10 tracks on a new EP he plans to release soon called “Careless World.”

That EP will come out around June 20. Woopie said he’s also working on a few other music videos while spending time promoting “Giving Me The Pussy.”

“They’re being edited now, but I thought it was time to promote the single I believe that will get me the most attention,” Woopie said. “There’s a lot of talent here in Philadelphia, but business-wise they don’t really know how to break out in the game. I’m self-explanatory for the most part, people are going to determine what it is they think about me anyway but I just think I'm original, that’s all.”
