New York Rapper Cammythekid is Dropping Beats while Stealing Bases

NEW YORK – Up-and-coming rapper cammythekid keeps a busy schedule of recording new tracks with some of the hottest stars in hip-hop and crossing the country playing college baseball in hopes of getting drafted. But he’s gearing up for an even busier summer as he releases his latest collab with Atlanta rapper Yung Bino, “4 Leaf Clover.”

cammythekid’s melodic beats set him apart from a lot of other young rappers. He eschews autotune, preferring to sing in his own voice.

“I’m an OG guy, like 50 Cent,” cammythekid said. “I like being natural and people hearing my full emotions on the microphone. It’s all me. It’s not fake.”

That natural style extends to his low-fi production.

“90 per cent of my songs are done on my cell phone with Apple head phones. That’s more natural. It’s a lot harder to do because you don’t have all the equipment. You don’t have anything but your beat and vocals to help you,” he said.

“4 Leaf Clover” with Yung Bino has already brought cammythekid to the attention of hip-hop stars Rich the Kid and Tory Lanez, who will be collaborating with him on tracks this spring.

Music is a relatively new endeavor for the 23-year-old college athlete from Guilderland, NY. He said he found his voice after going through a painful breakup after a three-year relationship, and for the past four years has been working to perfect his craft.

“We had good times and really bad times,” he said. “It was a very toxic relationship. We had a lot of stories that I needed to express on the mic. We love each other, but it was mentally abusive. She made an OnlyFans when I was still trying to be her man. It made me feel like the girl wasn’t loving me as much as I loved her, and she wasn’t putting in what I was putting in.”

The pain of that breakup fueled cammythekid’s scorching diss tracks “LaMe BiTcH” and “OnlyFans,” which signaled a new direction for the New York rapper.

“I was living in a lie, and I saw it the whole time, but I acted like I didn’t because I loved her and thought she would change,” he said. “I had to cut things off to become the person I want to become.”

With a busy schedule of playing double-headers of college ball in Houston, TX, recording tracks, and planning an upcoming tour, the sky is the limit for this rising star.
