Cassidy Cantu releases debut single ‘GIMME IT’

BOSTON, MA - Cassidy Cantú is an artist with a lively Pop sound and a love for music that brings her work to life. Recently this exciting young artist has released her debut single co-produced with her brother, a thoughtful track titled “GIMME IT”.

Cantú’s love for music began at a young age, but it was when her older brother Taylor Rysanek got into making music that her interest really began to take hold. “I thought he was the coolest person in the world,” Cantú explained. “So I started getting into music around seven with the trumpet.” From there, both siblings found places in a performing arts setting, and this eventually led Cantú to pursue a degree at Berklee College of Music.

It was at Berklee that the track “GIMME IT” started to take shape. “I wrote it for a class assignment, but I really fell in love with the song,” Cantú explained. “I sent it to my brother, who is a producer now and he loved it.” From there, he took full reign on production, adding in the exciting electronic feel.

Originally the track was about how loving someone can become a bad habit, but as the song grew and began to take its final shape, the focus shifted the way a toxic relationship can become addictive. “It is about being addicted to loving someone and knowing that they're bad.,” she explained. “I was so hung up on someone that wasn't really serving me the way I needed to be served in the relationship and I was indulging in their presence while knowing it was bad for me.”

The concept that follows “GIMME IT” is something that many people can relate to in today's social setting. “Young people go through things like this all of the time,” Cantú said. “Someone always ends up with the short end of the stick.” Not only is the track fun and easy to listen to, it also provides an important message about the people we surround ourselves with.

As Cantú continues to grow her platform, she is also preparing to put together a full band to continue to make music with. Alongside this, she plans to release another single with her Brother and prepare to release an EP.
