Baltimore-based, Florida-born vocalist, songwriter, producer, and dancer, The Cingularity, is preparing for a busy year ahead. Leading up to the release of his upcoming EP, “Dark Matter,” The Cingularity shared his newest single, “SPKRZ UP” (Speakers Up), at the beginning of July. With two singles already out, the artist is dropping a musical trail for listeners before his EP debut. “SPKRZ UP” delivers a particularly strong message: “Just be yourself and don’t care about what other people have to say or think about you.”
On the whole, The Cingularity packs a fun, energetic punch into his sound, which is primarily a blend of hip-hop and rap. Influenced by artists such as Big K.R.I.T., Kendrick Lamar, and Outcast, the musician creates his own sound with a classic touch. “All of the music on my ep is self-produced except one track. I write all my own music.”
“As far as the writing process, I basically just write whatever I feel in the moment, whatever comes to me,” says the artist. “At the time, it might be a line, a chorus, a verse or a even a full song! I just write what comes.” It’s a process that works for The Cingularity who allows music to flow organically instead of forcing an idea to come to fruition too quickly. “Sometimes I have beats that I’ve made years ago and at the time I didn’t have the right song or lyrics to go with it. And all of the sudden, I come up with something that fits.”
The Cingularity began writing music at a young age, but it wasn’t until 2020 that he shared his music publicly. Engineer by day, The Cingularity moonlights as a musician—all in pursuit of his true calling, making music that helps people and might one day change the world. “I do it for the culture,” he adds.
When it comes to acknowledging his journey, The Cingularity isn’t too shy to admit that his life accomplishments are worth honoring. “I’m proud of the fact I’ve recorded and released music I’ve created. Some of these things I made years ago and thought I would never release them. The fact that I’ve gone through the process of recording and mastering and getting on streaming channels with official artwork—that’s something.”
This year and moving forward, The Cingularity hopes to perform to live audiences, particularly at festivals stages. “I would love to do Coachella,” says the artist.
