It’s not every day that an artist sets out to achieve the unthinkable. Self-acclaimed “Hustla 1st, Lady 2nd,” Shanne'll is an inspirational artist on a mission. Creating music about everyday life that is relatable yet entertaining, the artist is set to publish 1000 songs. Her goal, while daunting, is set against a worthy opponent: Shanne’ll’s unwavering determination to succeed. Every Wednesday, the songstress is set to publish a new song on a variety of topics.
Saying “what you want to say but won’t,” the musician has no problem expressing herself and representing everyday people through her words. From speaking on life's problems, "acting a fool", love, and everything in between, Shanne’ll sets ordinary life against a backdrop of impactful music. She’s not a trend follower. In fact, the artist says “I want to be the solution for when people are going through anything in life and they want to hear something that matches that... I have a song that fits! Big issues or small things, it doesn't matter. I want to connect people with my music in that way.” It’s this genuine approach that sets the artist apart from all of the musicians set on creating popular music for the sake of popularity instead of the art.
“I believe that, as the saying goes, ‘Art imitates life.’ Music should be the same because it’s a form of art,” explains Shanne’ll. “Music as art imitates life. If you look at different paintings by Picasso or other artists, you’ll see they let the art speak.” It’s Shanne’ll’s love and respect for art that motivates the musician to keep writing and letting the work speak for itself. “Movies are art as well. Filmmakers create movies with soooo many different topics but when it comes to music, there seems to be a more cookie cutter approach about love or sex or rapping about drugs or violence. Life is so much more colorful than that. My songs range from any and everything. I want my music to be timeless, not trendy. Anybody can relate to it.”
When it’s time to create her art, Shanne’ll approaches each song differently. For some songs, she’ll start with the words that come to mind—a combination of words or a melody in her head—and then tackle the music afterwards. For other songs, she gets beats from different producers and writes from there. Her goal is for no two songs to sound the same, which offers the artist endless creative flexibility.
“I feel like I have a lot more to do—more to say and create. I’m proud of going for my dreams and not conforming,” says the artist of her hustle. It’s not about having an underdog story or achieving some sort of global record—what appeals to Shanne’ll is setting her mind to a lofty goal and achieving it. Right now, she’s focused on being “behind that pen and paper and the booth.” Perhaps down the line, performing for live audiences will also be at the forefront, but right now she’s set on completing her 1000 songs as promised.
