Hip-hop artists NSMG Truu and Quan2x—otherwise known as Rocksolid—are bringing feel-good music back with their new record, “Sessions Tape.” Sure to draw instant fans, the duo’s fresh album features songs are the perfect mix of fun and upbeat—the essential sounds of summer.
“Sessions Tape” includes tracks like “Lowkey” (featuring NSMG True and Quan2x), “Yes Lord” (featuring NSMG True and Quan2x), “Bogus” (featuring Quan2x), and “Fiji” (featuring NSMG Truu). On the whole, the songs are the perfect balance of quality production and pleasantly unexpected twists. The album contains a variety of sound, from Quan2x’s “Bogus” to NSMG Truu’s “Fiji.”
“The best way to describe our music is we’re bringing feel-good music back.” Out of the album, the artists love all of their tracks, but if they had to pick a favorite, it would be “New Life.” “It’s about king of being a cool guy everyone can vibe with.”
The duo came together a year ago and just released their first album almost exactly a year to date. While their musical experience varies, they demonstrate the power of collaboration to deliver a unique sound that is bound to draw audiences across the globe.
“I’ve been a part of music my whole life, singing in church, going to church. Everyone in my family can either sing or play an instrument. I’ve been writing music since Lil Wayne got popular,” shares Quan2x of his early passion for music.
Truu’s story is a bit different. He didn’t jump in the game until 2017, after spending years in college figuring out how to make beats and record quality music. “For me, my music journey just started. I’ve been writing since I was young—my grandma and dad made me read and write a lot. But I just started taking it seriously after high school when someone told me I should. I didn’t want to, but after I listened to myself, I realized I had something.”
Contrary to what many would believe, the most influential artists for Truu and Quan are 1950s and 60s performers. “We really love older artists like Little Richard, James Brown, and Sam Cooke,” they share. When it comes to writing music, their true inspiration come from everyday life. “Some days, we’re walking down the street coming up with a melody from scratch. Or it can be as simple as us being in the studio playing a beat, freestyling to the beat.”
From life changing shows (Atlanta for Truu) to putting out their first music video, the duo is proud of how far they’ve come and where they’re headed next. “I want fans to know that every one of our songs come from the heart. We make real soul music you feel every time. We show you that in every one of our songs,” says Rocksolid, acknowledging that the music industry has taken a turn for the negative over the years. “We want to hear a different way to live life.”
