PHILADELPHIA, PA—Rapper TopNotch is ready to take his sound to the next level, looking to connect writing relatable tracks with mainstream success.

The Philadelphia-based rapper has been rapping and performing since he was 8-years-old, but recently began taking it more seriously, working with Grammy-nominated artists to release his latest single “Broke Heart.”

TopNotch is not necessarily connecting with his personal life, but branching out to think of relatable topics that could connect with his sound, writing “Broke Heart,” a song about heartbreak out of its importance to resonate with his listeners.

Giving creative freedom to the director of the music video based on the song, “Broke Heart”’s cinematic video brings the track to life. Defiance and a dissolving love story come together side-by-side, showing a boxer emulating the pain in TopNotch’s song writing.

“I wanted to make music that I felt would hit home and hit home in such a way either you was in a situation, know somebody, or just hit home because you could just relate period. But the whole point is that I wanted to make sure it was something that people can feel,” says TopNotch. “I'm making a song that's going to feel like it's not even debatable. It's going to hit all across everybody. So basically when I was making the song, that was just one of many songs how I make my songs, period.”

“Broke Heart” was written and produced by TopNotch, but features singer SeQuence Clark, connecting with him through producer DJ Flocka. The Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter, recognized for his work on Eric Bellinger’s 2021 record “New Light,” helped TopNotch in tying the song together with his vocals—an R&B pop approach to a chorus that is as straightforward as the song’s title against TopNotch’s fast-paced freestyle-like rapping.

“I want to make sure that I'm making the song that's the best that you heard about whatever that topic was,” explains TopNotch. “I want to make a song that's pretty much one of the best songs you've heard that covers that topic, because if we talk about things that are gonna hit home to anybody, I want it to be one of the best that they heard according to their situations “
