Rapper Yung Double—otherwise known as Marcus Crooms—drops latest single, “Still Cookin’,” a fast-paced trap song that’ll simmer in your head long after the first listen.
“Still Cookin’” is intended to be a motivational, inspiring, and unique song. “My producer made the beat first. He cut the beat up while we were in the studio. Then I started the hook. Once I land my hook, I usually sit on the record for a couple of days. With this particular one, I came up with the hook that night and came and dropped the verses the next day,” shares Yung Double.
Yung Double hoped to add the single to his subsequent album, but it stood out so much from the other tracks it became a standalone hit. “They know what it is,” says Yung Double of the meaning behind his single. While the beat alone will have new listeners coming back for more, those who share life experiences with the rapper better understand the song’s true meaning.
Throughout his life, Yung Double learned many hard lessons—also the hard way. He was raised by a single mother and often found himself in search of shortcuts, many of which ended in imprisonment. After his third stint in prison, Yung Double knew he needed to seek another path in life—this one following music. Motivated by his love for his children and family, he turned to creating music and hasn’t looked back.
These days, Yung Double reflects on his experiences and “tales from the hood” to create real music that resonates with listeners. He is authentic to the core and speaks to his own truth. Past experiences, while often painful, are a source of inspiration for Yung Double’s music. “Life has a funny way of taking us through hell to lead us to something greater,” tells the artist on his way to success.
