Exclusive Interview with It's A Cool Day

MusicWeek Staff: How would you describe your work style?

C.O.O.L.: I think of relatable stories but it’s not an audience first mentality it’s more inward and then respecting that someone will be listening to it and making it understandable by finding that common ground we all share.

Day: My work style is comprised of me, with my workstation, headphones, dim lights, and a nice bottle of wine next to me. It's a "Sip-and-Spit" format. I believe in the initial ideas are typically the best ones, so I try to set up my environment to capture the moment instantly if I can.

MusicWeek Staff: What is your process in composing your song?
Day: A lot of our music derives from our conversations we have. Once pre-production is created, we would start developing melodies until that sparks certain phrases. Once that happens, a topic soon follows which leads to us recording a rough draft. When we complete the vocals, we arrange the rest of the music to "complete the entire vision of the story"

C.O.O.L.: I go off inspiration and emotion and once that happens the work ethic kicks in, making sure I finish what I start and figuring out the story as I work. I like to write I get all my ideas out and I try not to judge them until they’re all out of my head, then edit and ask can I say this better.

MusicWeek Staff: What was the defining moment when you knew you were meant to create music?
C.O.O.L.: I knew when I first heard my voice on record. I wrote a rap for a beat I made. I had a Samsung go-mic which was a usb mic the size of a lighter but once I heard what I recorded, it felt like I belonged on the air waves, I felt that I could articulate and communicate what I was feeling through music better than I could in a conversation.

Day: As early of 6 or 7, I remembered my family always having get-togethers. Music was always playing. I would eventually learned those records and then start to make my melodies to them until I started to like what I made a little more then what I was hearing. Soon after, I started to write on anything I can get my hands on. I started to notice the absolute joy my felt creating melodies and putting words on them. From then, I knew this what I wanted to do for life.

MusicWeek Staff: What story behind the song "The Butterfly Effect”?
It's A Cool Day: The story behind "The Butterfly Effect" derived from a conversation we had about different stages one goes through when find a person they are attracted to and infatuated with. It describes an inevitable point in everyone’s life where you meet someone special and it explores that feeling. There so many unknowns in the first stages of love. We take the audience on a trip with our thoughts on the uncertainties, the potentials and the rush of embarking on a new relationship and hopefully reminded them of their own Butterfly Effect.

MusicWeek Staff: How did you describe your process of creating "The Butterfly Effect" compared to your other song?
C.O.O.L.: It wasn’t really different than what we did while creating the rest of “You’re Welcome” it was all special and all a unique process. For one we were collaborating as a new group. Second all of our music comes together organically and you can hear it. It’s not a forced sound, it’s a fire moment that you get to listen to over and over. Day: The only thing I can pinpoint is the change of mood of the music really. It's like being streaming water, the best thing you can do is not to fight the current, be the current and trust the process.

MusicWeek Staff: How would you describe your new video to any potential new fan.
It's A Cool Day: In 1 word, trippy. Shout out to Olskool Ice-Gre the head of Honest Music AKA Spike Gre. He had the idea and the vision and really brought our words to life, literally. In this video, we would love for the audience to observe the intention with each scene. From the vintage style of the photography, to the representation of black love in a positive way, to the display of song-to-sight with the images in the background; it all is a masterful piece of art.

MusicWeek Staff: With every project comes a challenge, Can you tell us a time were you faces obstacles when creating this music video? How did you handle it?
It's A Cool Day: We are fortunate enough to have an amazing team that really pulls through for us. They dealt with the brunt of the problems so we could focus on artistry. Again shout out to Honest Music. Olskool Ice-Gre dealt with location cancellations, Prop problems, actress cancelations and handled it with class and as an immovable force.

MusicWeek Staff: Do you take the context of the song in consideration when creating the video? Why/Why not?
It's A Cool Day: Yes for sure. The visuals track our lyrics and directly relate to the source material as it should because it was called for in this song. The point of the video was to bring home the message, you can see the passion from us and the mysticism at the same damn time and it makes you ask ,one”who are these guys?” And two I think it brings you back to your own memory of the butterfly effect in your life. Olskool really made that a point in the video.

MusicWeek Staff: What do you consider to be the most important ideas and concepts to impart to aspiring musicians?
It's A Cool Day: You have to have the ultimate confidence in yourself and believe in yourself despite what anyone says. You have to carry the torch for your vision, yes you need help but there can’t be times when people have more fire than you. Get a vision hold on to it. Hold it clear in your mind and with everything you have move towards it. What progress you make is good, don’t compare yourself to others, your journey is yours.

MusicWeek Staff: Where can potential fans find out more about you?
It's A Cool Day: Follow us @_it’sacoolday on all platforms. We have a gang of more content coming.
