Music's Week Staff: Who are your biggest musical influences?
Paris King: I have lots of influences but my 3 biggest are Tina turner David Bowie and Bob Marley. I love them all!
Music's Week Staff: When/How did you become interested in music?
Paris King: I have been interested in making music and performing since I was about 3. Its definitely something that I was born to do.
Music's Week Staff: How does this song "Jealousy" differ with your previous song?
Paris King: My song Jealousy differs from previous tracks hugely because of its dancehall roots. All of my other music has been more club inspired which is still great but Jealousy definitely has more grit!
Music's Week Staff: What skills/personal attributes are most important to being successful?
Paris King: Success to me comes down to three things; Authenticity- Tenacity and creativity. are my top 3 mantras.
Music's Week Staff: How important do you think video is to your music?
Paris King: Music videos are hugely important and so is visual representation.
Music's Week Staff: What did you hope to achieve with your music video?
Paris King: With my music video for Jealousy I wanted to achieve more visibility and to show the queer POC community whilst looking fly!
Music's Week Staff: How would you describe your new video to any potential new fan?
Paris King: I describe the Jealousy music video as a homecoming for a mixed race queen who has felt in the past somewhat downtrodden in my own Ethnic community. It screams “POC Queens are here and are her to stay”
Music's Week Staff: What set your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon?
Paris King: Im the only LGBTQ Artist performing dancehall music. This is because Historically the LGBT community have not been well accepted into the ethnic communities.
Music's Week Staff: Has your music career journey had a deliberately direction or did it simply gradually evolve in whatever direction it found?
Paris King: My career has always been based on what feels the most comfortable or what the next logical step was for me personally. Also what is fun comes into the mix.
