Music's Week: What inspires your music and what message do you hope to convey through your songs?
Lydia Lato: My music comes from my within, you know that inner self that we all have? Yeah that’s the one. I like to write music about deep emotional states that fans can relate with. Also various life experiences. It’s like conveying history as I journey across time. I want my songs to steer people’s emotions and feelings. I want people to listen to my songs and be able to relate to the theme of the song.
Music's Week: Can you walk us through your songwriting process? How do you come up with ideas for your songs?
Lydia Lato: My songwriting process is fluid. I can work on a song and be done with it in an hour or take weeks to finish one. I can write songs from scratch and sometimes have another songwriter come in to give more flavor. Sometimes, a producer(s) can send me a beat and I can catch inspiration from it.
Music's Week: What's the story behind your latest single/album? What inspired you to write it?
Lydia Lato: The story behind my latest single ‘Loved’ is one of loss and hope. Actually I was inspired to write this song about a pet I lost in 2021. The lyrics just came out of me.
Music's Week: How has your music evolved over time? What changes have you made in your sound or style?
Lydia Lato: My first song has a very intense vibe to it. There’s no upbeat energy in it. Lately, I’ve been creating a mix of deep emotional songs and upbeat songs. My music now has diversity to it.
Music's Week: Who are some of your biggest influences and how have they impacted your music?
Lydia Lato: I remembered when I was about 4 years old or so and I first heard Celine Dion on the radio. She sang so beautifully I started to sing songs passionately. As the years went by, my influences have varied. Some of the artists that inspired me are Sade Adu, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Adele and so on.
Music's Week: What do you think sets you apart from other artists in your genre?
Lydia Lato: I bring a dynamic style to my music and I can actually sing those high notes. I have a 3.5 octave range! I am always working to improve my music over time.
Music's Week: Can you tell us about a particularly memorable performance or show that stands out to you? What made it so special?
Lydia Lato: I went to one of Beyonce’s concert recently and I’ll be remembering it for the rest of my life. Beyonce is such a talented singer and performer. She really owns the stage
Music's Week: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians just starting out in the industry?
Lydia Lato: The one and only advice I have for aspiring musicians just starting out is to NEVER GIVE UP. Music is a lifestyle and musicians who really love art and creating it should fight like hell for their dreams and aspirations. Even just putting one percent each day adds up over time.
Music's Week: What's been the most surreal or exciting moment of your career so far?
Lydia Lato: I’m super excited at the stage I’m at right now in my music career. It’s been a journey for sure. I started my music career in February of 2020, just before the pandemic hit. It was very hard to make a wave that time. Now, I’m at the point where my career is starting to take off. I’m releasing more songs, getting in contact with managers and publicists, and finally seeing a path to success. It’s incredible. This phase I’m in will probably be the best time of my life where I turn into a diamond masterpiece from just a lump of coal. No paparazzi’s yet so I’m free to dress however I want in public!
Music's Week: What's next for you? Any new projects or releases on the horizon that we should be excited about?
Lydia Lato: Currently, I’m working on four songs with three different producers. These producers have made massive hits working with artists like Katy Perry, Justin Beiber etc so you know something major is currently brewing. I’ll probably release one of the songs this September.
