MusicsWeek: When did you first realize you wanted to be a musician?

Jimmy Mallia:
I have always loved music. I started playing guitar and singing at age 13. I went onto musicals in high school and then put down the guitar for over 30 years. I started writing songs about 16 years ago and released my first song

MusicsWeek: What was the first song you ever wrote, and what inspired it?

Jimmy Mallia:
Cover Me was the first song I wrote. I was going through a rough time and the thought of escaping life was what hit me. The song is about a man in a mental institution who does not want to face life again.

MusicsWeek: What’s the most significant change you’ve seen in yourself since starting your music career?

Jimmy Mallia:
My guitar playing has gotten better since I work on it daily.  I am also improving as a singer.

MusicsWeek: What accomplishment in your career are you most proud of?

Jimmy Mallia:
I have had a successful business career in my life.  Then hit a rough patch. Releasing my songs is a success in itself. To put my songs and myself out there. I’m pretty proud of that.

MusicsWeek: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

Jimmy Mallia:
I love to spend time with my family and grandkids. I work out and like to stay in shape. Music takes up the rest of my time.

MusicsWeek: Can you walk us through your typical songwriting process?

Jimmy Mallia:
It always starts with a thought or a simple line. I then build the song around that thought or line. It is such a fun process!

MusicsWeek: Where do you find inspiration for your lyrics and melodies?

Jimmy Mallia:
My life. Almost all my songs are reflective of my life experiences. My life has been very eventful!  A true Netflix series.

MusicsWeek: Can you share the story behind your latest single?

Jimmy Mallia:
My latest single Bye Bye Mamma is about my mom and would it will be like when we lose her. The impact she has had in so many lives.

MusicsWeek: What’s the most meaningful interaction you’ve had with a fan?

Jimmy Mallia:
I am not sure I have a real fan base.  Yet. But my grandson was so excited when a classmate heard me sing and knew who I was. He didn’t believe I was my grandson’s grandfather.

MusicsWeek: What’s something about you that fans might be surprised to learn

Jimmy Mallia: I am a proud grandfather. Hopefully, I look too young to have grandkids. Haha.
