Exclusive Interview with Jay Anthony

MusicsWeek: Who or what has been your biggest influence in your music career and how have they shaped your sound?

Jay Anthony: Michael Jackson-complex vocal runs. Tony Bennett-Emotive, singing Pop and Jazz standards  with class capturing hearts. Luther Vandross- Flawless and smooth voice. 
 
MusicsWeek: Can you describe your songwriting process? Do you typically start with lyrics, a melody or a concept?

Jay Anthony: I typically start with a melody. I love to come up with concepts as well. 
 
MusicsWeek: What challenges have you faced as an artist and how have you overcome them?

Jay Anthony: The biggest challenge I have face is finding music producer's. I overcame that challenge by finding producer's on social media.
 
MusicsWeek: Can you share the story behind your latest album or project? What themes or messages are you hoping to convey?

Jay Anthony: Love and inspiration what I hope to convey. Love motivates my music, and my writing.
 
MusicsWeek: How do you approach collaborations with other artists? Any memorable experiences you’d like to share?

Jay Anthony: I love it. It has to be intentional. And the music has to have a message behind it.
 
MusicsWeek: What's your favorite part about performing live? How do you connect with your audience during shows?

Jay Anthony: I love how my music unit's people. I sing from the heart which connects with my audience hearts.
 
MusicsWeek: How do you feel you’ve evolved as an artist since you first started making music?

Jay Anthony: I am way more confident as a singer-songwriter since I started. 
 
MusicsWeek: What are your thoughts on the current state of the music industry, especially with the rise of streaming platforms and social media?

Jay Anthony: The current state of the music industry is evolving. Real Talent is emerging back into Pop Music which has been missing for a very long time. I love how our music is streaming all around the world. Everyone can access it. 
 
MusicsWeek: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians trying to make their mark in the industry today?

Jay Anthony: Get your voice out there! Join a Church and school choir, talent shows, social media, whatever it is, put yourself out there for people to hear you! Voice lessons, though you have been born with a great voice as a beginner, you need the right training to perfect the voice. To develop your skills, write, you need to practice regularly. Build and maintain relationships with others. 
 
MusicsWeek: What’s next for you? Are there any upcoming projects, collaborations or tours that you can share with us?

Jay Anthony: I want to continue to grow as an artist. I would love to collaborate with other artists.
