While two-time Tony winner Denzel Washington was not nominated for his most recent Broadway role in Othello, the revered stage and screen actor has now been immortalized at iconic New York City restaurant Sardi’s, a huge honor within the NYC Broadway community.

Known for their portraits of iconic Broadway stars and New York personalities, Washington’s Monday (June 3) ceremony honoring his 2024 turn as The Moor Of Venice featured the debut of his own caricature in Sardi’s signature art style.  He joins theater and New York City icons ranging from Fred Astaire, Harry Belafonte, and Lucille Ball, to Debbie Allen, Angela Bassett, and Diahann Carroll.

The Oscar winner was supported by wife, Pauletta Washington, and daughter, Olivia Washington, as well as his Othello cast mates, including co-star, Jake Gyllenhaal. Purpose star and Tony nominee LaTanya Richardson Jackson, director Kenny Leon and producer Brian Moreland were also in attendance.

The ceremony comes two weeks after Washington was spotted checking a handsy photographer at the Cannes Film Festival for grabbing his arm on the red carpet. In a light-hearted moment during the Sardi’s ceremony, Washington appears to re-create the “scene” with a reporter who’s in on the joke.

Check out snaps from the Sardi’s ceremony below.
