The Royston Club is currently out in front in the race for this week’s Number 1 spot on the Official Albums Chart.
The indie-rock four-piece from Wrexham, who scored a Top 20 debut in 2023 with Shaking Hips and Crashing Cars, are on track for a new career high with their second studio release, Songs for the Spine.
That lead is slim, though the album is fewer than 1,000 units ahead of Lost americana, the seventh studio record from MGK (formerly Machine Gun Kelly), and Oasis’s enduring singles collection Time Flies… 1994–2009, which are tied for second place. As the week unfolds, the question is whether The Royston Club and mgk can hold off the streaming power of Oasis.
Elsewhere, Southern gothic singer-songwriter Ethel Cain is on course for her best chart position yet with Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You (4), following her 2022 debut Preacher’s Daughter, which peaked at Number 10.
Pennsylvania rockers Halestorm are also eyeing a career-best with Everest (5), while Craig David could secure a seventh Top 10 entry with Commitment (7).
Japanese metal outfit BABYMETAL are fighting for their first UK Top 10 with Metal Forth (8), and Georgia rapper Gunna is in contention for his first UK Top 10 with The Last Wun (10).
Gracie Abrams’ 2020 debut EP Minor looks set to chart for the first time, thanks to a red vinyl reissue marking its fifth anniversary (14). Her 2024 chart-topping album, The Secret of Us, could also re-enter the Top 40 (16).
Finally, Ohio duo The Black Keys are in the running for a ninth UK Top 40 album with their 13th studio project, No Flowers, No Rain.
