MusicsWeek: Who are your biggest musical influences?
Lettie Law: Lionel Ritchie, Michael Jackson, Glen Campbell, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Lady Gaga,Janet Jackson, ABBA, Michael Buble.
MusicsWeek: What non-musical influences (books, movies, art, etc.) inspire your work?
Lettie Law: Non-musical influences that inspire my work: Christian films like The Passion of Christ, Jonah, some movies that are non Christian, eg the notebook, many artwork in places like Boston and even some paintings I see at work, I could watch a painting for what seems to be eternity without getting bored, Television shows like Saturday night live, etc.
MusicsWeek: Is there a particular song or album that has significantly influenced your career?
Lettie Law: Glen Campbell’s show a little kindness.
MusicsWeek: How do your personal experiences shape your music?
Lettie Law: Some of my life experiences have been normal but most of my life experiences are purely bizarre if you look at them from a normal everyday perspective, yes, and so I draw a lot of inspiration from them, sad things happening, happy moments, love, loss and elevations.
MusicsWeek: Have your influences changed over the years?
Lettie Law: Not really.
MusicsWeek: How do you incorporate your cultural background into your music?
Lettie Law: I do that by staying away from certain words and sentences that may come out as rude or insensitive.
MusicsWeek: What role does nature or your environment play in your songwriting?
Lettie Law: Not always.But this depends on the song that I am getting. I’ve received songs in a very noisy atmosphere, I’ve received songs even in a very busy surrounding, and some places you can call toxic environments.
MusicsWeek: When did you first realize you wanted to be a musician?
Lettie Law: I didn’t really want to be a musician, even though I was receiving and writing songs, it never occurred to me that I would be making it public. I was very shy and kept refusing to sing publicly until it became a matter of life and death.
MusicsWeek: What was the first song you ever wrote, and what inspired it?
Lettie Law: Prayer is a master key’ inspired by the long list of answered prayers that I had as a child, I wrote this song when I was around 6years old.
MusicsWeek: How did you get started in the music industry?
Lettie Law: A long story of how I felt I was dying every night but the doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me, this issue resolved as soon as I made the first album.
