SZA’s run throughout the 2020s with a single album has already been remarkable, but it just became even stronger. The Missouri artist is now the only person to earn nine Grammy nominations from one album. She reached this milestone thanks to the deluxe version of SOS, titled LANA.
The expanded edition of her 2022 pop and R and B project earned her two additional nominations. "30 For 30" with Kendrick Lamar is competing for Best Pop Duo and Group Performance, while "Crybaby" is in the running for Best Traditional R and B Performance.
Her incredible success with this album has been a constant theme at the Grammys since it first dropped. It all began with "Good Days." Then, in 2024, she received five more nominations for separate songs. Those tracks were "Kill Bill," "Ghost in the Machine" with Phoebe Bridgers, "Love Language," "Snooze," and "Low."
Earlier this year, "Saturn" earned nominations for Best R and B Performance and Best R and B Song.
This new total of nine nominations puts her ahead of several legendary artists. According to Billboard, the next closest is Beyonce with seven from COWBOY CARTER. After that comes Santana with six from Supernatural, followed by Lauryn Hill’s five from Miseducation and Michael Jackson’s five from Thriller.
Altogether, this moment adds even more weight to the TDE star’s legacy, and she has the chance to elevate it further at the sixty eighth Grammy Awards on February 1.
Next year, SZA may continue expanding her Grammy collection, which currently includes five trophies. She is up for five categories overall, with "luther" earning the most recognition. The song appears in three major fields: Best Melodic Rap Performance, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.
There is also the possibility of even more nominations down the line. In her interview with GQ, SZA confirmed that she is already developing a new album. What makes this even more surprising is that she jumped back into recording shortly after finishing her stint with Kendrick Lamar on the GNX tour.
