Bryan Adams has officially earned his second entry into YouTube Music’s Billion Views Club, this time with his timeless hit (Everything I Do) I Do It For You.
The legendary Canadian artist crossed the billion view mark with the performance video for the 1991 power ballad, famously featured in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves starring Kevin Costner.
Much like the blockbuster film it accompanied, “I Do It For You” became a worldwide phenomenon after its release. The song remains one of Adams’ four No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and held the top position for seven consecutive weeks, making it his longest running chart topper in the United States.
The song also achieved historic success in the United Kingdom, where it dominated the Official U.K. Singles Chart for 16 straight weeks. To this day, no other track in Official Charts Company history has spent more consecutive weeks at No. 1.
(Everything I Do) I Do It For You served as the lead single from Adams’ album Waking Up the Neighbours, which topped charts in the U.K. and Australia while reaching No. 6 on the Billboard 200.
The movie behind the song was also a massive commercial success. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves became the second highest grossing film of 1991 with approximately $390 million worldwide, finishing behind Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which earned around $520 million globally. The film also significantly outperformed the other Robin Hood adaptation released that same year starring Patrick Bergin.
Bryan Adams first joined YouTube’s Billion Views Club with another beloved ballad, Please Forgive Me from 1993.
“(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” was co-written by Adams alongside Robert John Lange and Michael Kamen. Its iconic black and white music video was shot in Miami in 1992 and directed by Andy Morahan.
