Artist Spotlight: Klassik Frescobar

Klassik Frescobar blends Jamaican Dancehall influences with Soca and Calypso, creating a unique sound driven by high-energy vocals and vibrant Caribbean rhythms. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, his passion for music began in the early 1990s after discovering artists like Bounty Killer, Sean Paul, and Beenie Man. After moving to the Bronx, New York, he focused on rap music while staying connected to his Dancehall roots and building relationships with influential DJs and producers, including Ricky Blaze.

In this exclusive Q&A, Klassik Frescobar opens up about the stories behind the music, lessons learned along the way, and what keeps their passion alive

MusicsWeek: How did you first get into music?

Klassik Frescobar: I was raised in a musical household, it’s a tradition in my mother’s side of the family to learn how to play piano. The intention is to eventually play the organ in church.

MusicsWeek: What’s one of your favorite music memories?

Klassik Frescobar: The first time I performed at Labor Day parade in New York. It was a full circle moment, because the last time I was there before 2022 was in 2003 as a patron.

MusicsWeek: What’s your songwriting process usually like?

Klassik Frescobar: It varies: I record, mix, and master my own records, so I’m usually alone and spend the day recording and editing. The actual songwriting I do in motion. For example, when I’m driving, on a plane ride, in the shower, or at a party. I’ll get a melody in my head and keep repeating it over and over until I get home to record it

MusicsWeek: Are there any artists or albums that really shaped your sound?

Klassik Frescobar: For soca? I can’t think of anything that “really” influenced it. Just life experience and traveling.

MusicsWeek: What’s the hardest part about being a musician?

Klassik Frescobar: Touring. It’s exhausting. It isn’t as fun and glamorous as people think it is.

MusicsWeek: How do you go about trying new sounds or styles?

Klassik Frescobar: I take my time and implement them where I think it will complement.

MusicsWeek: What’s the most creative or unexpected thing you’ve done in your music?

Klassik Frescobar: Recorded “Dansa” in 2023 and released it in 2025 for it to be a hit.

MusicsWeek: What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve run into in your career so far?

Klassik Frescobar: Balancing my personal life, my music administrative life, and my artist life.

MusicsWeek: How do you connect with your fans and keep that relationship going?

Klassik Frescobar: I’m usually outside in the culture often. Because it helps me understand what sounds are currently being played. So, most real fans have actually met me outside. I think it’s integral to be outside and observe how the music is consumed in order to properly curate it.

MusicsWeek: How do you usually approach writing lyrics that people can relate to?

Klassik Frescobar: I figure whatever gets stuck in my head may get stuck in their head also.
