Brook Lynn brings listeners to her world of forest pop with emotionally resonant music

Brook Lynn is a singer and songwriter from Wilp, The Netherlands that creates emotionally cinematic and atmospheric music. Her music is meant to captivate and resonate with the minds and hearts of her listeners as they gravitate towards her vulnerability and truth. Growing up in isolation in her home country, she recently ventured to the United States for an America’s Got Talent appearance with reassurance and hope for anyone who can relate to her story.

Brook Lynn’s stage name is a combination of her real name and the brooks that flow throughout the forests of Wilp. Additionally, the reference to the Dutch town of Breukelen (pronounced “Brooklyn”) doubles down on the power of her heritage and identity that supporters will learn of before they even hear her powerful voice.

Wilp is a small village in The Netherlands that is surrounded by woods. Often alone in the forest, Brook Lynn found herself developing social anxiety as a result of her environment. When having family dinners at restaurants, she often could not stay longer than 20-30 minutes without having an anxiety attack. Through the support of her parents, she was soon able to not only stay longer but order her own food too.

“At first I would always back out of things I was scared of which would just make me more depressed. But it’s beautiful to actually try new things because you realize how fun they can be once you actually experience them.” she said.

Anxiety is still a part of Brook Lynn’s life but it does not run her life. Traveling to America for AGT and being on stage in front of millions is yet another step of her continuing to navigate it. Her music continues to be an emotional outlet and helps her deal with anxiety every day. It brings her comfort, confidence and is an emotional release, so much so that she sometimes gives herself goosebumps just from singing.

“Music is a perfect outlet for emotional expression. Sometimes feelings can be hard to talk about directly but you can find lyrics that express exactly how you feel and singing them is an emotional release.” she said.

With music being an emotional release for Brook Lynn, her subject matter often connects to themes of vulnerability and isolation with emotional tension being the connecting thread for it all. Her music, a genre in itself she calls “forest pop,” is a seamless blend of atmospheric and cinematic alternative music that leaves room for belting. She learned to sing loudly because the forest was the only audience she had.

With emotional resonance flowing across all of Brook Lynn’s music, she has found herself a multitude of listeners across her social pages, which she likes to call her friends. Naturally, this number has grown tenfold since her AGT appearance. Supporters from around the world have expressed how they have connected with and been motivated by her music, often to the point of tears.

With music birthed from isolation, Brook Lynn has made more bonds than she ever thought possible by being authentically vulnerable. The same woods that made her feel isolated became the place where she discovered her voice. Sharing her music is like having conversations with her friends.

“Whether it’s a comment or a direct message, someone trusting you enough to share that much about themselves because of the music is the biggest compliment I can get. They inspire me to keep going.” she said.

Appearing on America’s Got Talent was the culmination of many goals and dreams for Brook Lynn but the journey was not a flawless one. She was somehow losing her voice during the soundcheck. Alongside the natural nervousness of being on the World’s Biggest Stage, she was also in America for the first time but throughout it all, she was determined to take advantage of the opportunity she was given. With the judges and rest of the world watching, she found her voice, she pushed through the anxiety and everyone was enthralled by her emotionally captivating performance.

Looking back, Brook Lynn never imagined those small victories would one day lead to her performing in front of millions on America’s Got Talent.
