OAKLAND, Calif. — Bay Area rapper and artist Dior Carter is working to be a better version of himself and he’s telling people about it with his new EP, “New Life,” scheduled for release later in March.
Dior is already known for his chill sound and vibe, and the seven new tracks on “New Life” will show how he’s elevating himself and making his sound even better than before.
“I titled it ‘New Life’ because I’m coming into new chapters in my life with my new career and leveling up and becoming a better version of myself,” Carter said. “So the EP, ‘New Life,’ is kind of like introducing myself entering a new phase in my life. It’s sending out a message that people are able to end one chapter in their life and turn the chapter to a new page and actually do something to better themselves.”
Carter highlighted two sexy singles coming out on this new EP.
“What You On,” is a sassy track that gets into the details of the physical relationship between a rapper and a woman who wants to “vibe and chill out,” with him.
It’s about a woman who wants to be close to the man because he’s a musician, but the man is looking for more than just sex.
“What else do you have to offer?” Carter said. “Do you have this to offer, do you have that to offer, can you bring this to the table? Can you build me up without breaking me down? I kind of talk about the fundamentals about what is it that I wanted other than like p###y and h##d, relations. That’s the theme of that song.”
Another sexy single is called “Love the Way You Move.”
“This is kind of more appreciating how my ‘woman’ would dodge other females when it comes to people trying to get into her head and staying on top of her game,” he said. “It’s about just liking the way she moves, loving the way she carried herself and handled herself and the way she moves about.”
Carter said he has deep respect for the Bay Area legends who laid the groundwork for his career. But he gets his inspiration from listening to artists from across the country, like Hot Boys, Big Timers and DMX.
“‘Flesh of my Blood, Blood of my Blood,’ and ‘Guerrilla Warfare’ literally, my first two CDs that I picked up,” Carter said. “I think I was 12 or 13 years old when they came out and they were the very first CDs I picked up. Those two were really my biggest influences growing up when it came to music.”
Carter said he hopes people will give him a listen because his sound is evolving.
“I would describe it as new, eccentric, vibrant, definitely something different. It’s a different evolution, it’s evolving in different ways,” Carter said.
