American rapper and independent artist Hennydubs is set to release his newest single, “Phone,” with an accompanying music video in July. Directed by Nick Asenjo Films, the video is filled with cars, city life, and a chill vibe. “Phone” was inspired by the relatable tale of trying to get someone to stop calling who is no longer welcome in your life. “Stop blowing up my phone,” Hennydubs tells us through song. The catchy beat and lyrics repeat throughout the song, leaving listeners hooked.

Yonkers born and raised, Hennydubs likes to weave tales of his youth and adulthood into his music. According to the artist, “most of my music is happy vibes. Basically like a humble, high-tempo chill.” He writes about relationships, the streets and selling drugs, and experiences that other people can relate to.

“I feel it in my soul,” says Hennydubs of the topics that inspire him to write. He is also inspired by musicians he admires including Fabulous, Jadakiss, and TPain, but the biggest motivator was seeing his own brother “writing on paper and being in the car rapping” while he was younger. Hennydubs has come a long way since then, and his music is quickly taking off.

Hennydubs’ process for writing music is complex yet he wouldn’t have it any other way. “I find the beat first, then hum and melodize to it and come up with the words. I use blank words or a lot of words that don’t make sense. Then pick a topic and flow of words—and then I write.” From concept to final product, Hennydubs finds a way to deliver the right message every time.

Since 2018, Hennydubs has been working on his music career above all else. This year, he’s ready to go on tour and focus on performing while collaborating on more features with other artists. He also has multiple new videos in the works, including one planned for a July release.

“I want people to know that this is it. This is what I wanted to and needed to do,” shares the artist. “Music saved me from a lot of stuff from stress to depression. My music is deeper than the music itself—it makes me happy and I don’t think about other stuff.”
