Born and raised in Columbus Georgia, Baby Duke—otherwise known as Kelvin E. Brooks, Jr.—is set to release his first EP, “One of A Kind.” With music that can best be described as authentic, “getting people going, club scene, ride with it in your car”-kind of music, the artist is gearing listeners for a fun summer. Covering all sorts of topics and moods, his EP has five tracks including a one-of-a-kind, attention-grabbing intro track.
“Groove” is the artist’s favorite song off his upcoming EP. “It’s a dancing king of song,” he says. “Red Flag,” another single, is about “females showing their red flags to me.” Two of the songs—“Thunderstorm” and “Girls Going Wild”—are sexual by nature, “the kind of song you would hear in a strip club.” When it comes to creating music, Baby Duke finds inspiration in “something I may have seen or done before. A feeling that I’m having.” “Groove,” in particular, came to the artist when he was in a partying mood.
The self-proclaimed “trouble child” went from being a fighter to believing that being a loner was a good defense mechanism against people who didn’t always have the best intentions. “I would think I’m kind of an open book to the people I know and closed off to the people I don’t know,” says the rapper of his personality, which he now shares through his music.
Baby Duke went on to join the Navy for four years and, upon his return home, was introduced to rapping by his brother-in-law, Pete. With less than one year in the game, Baby Duke is ready to show the world what he’s got.
From troubled teenager to musical artist, Baby Duke is proud of “getting up and doing it.” According to the artist, “I never thought I would be rapping so I’m proud of just doing it. Before 2021 I never had any aspirations to rap. One of my people sent me a song he wanted me to feature on. It’s the fact that I know music that made him send me the song, saying he knew I could come up with something catchy on it.”
Ultimately, Baby Duke wants to reach fans all over and even end up on television someday. Following his EP release, he’s planning to perform his full catalogue of songs for live audiences.
