MusicWeek Staff: Who are your biggest musical influences?
Emily Ryan: My biggest musical influences are Lady Gaga, P!nk, Ryan Tedder, 80's Rock in general, Taylor Swift, Adele.
MusicWeek Staff: When/How did you become interested in music?
Emily Ryan: I've been in music for as long as I can remember, I started doing choir and theater when I was in Kindergarden and then my love for music only grew and grew as I grew older and explored more avenues. I really knew I wanted to be a Rockstar probably around late middle school, or high school for sure!
MusicWeek Staff: How does this song "Be Mad" differ with your previous songs?
Emily Ryan: I tried really hard to show/explore a lot of range with this album since it is my debut album. I really loved "Be Mad" from the moment I wrote it. I think it's a great modern take on pop rock with a strong backbeat and a clear message. I also think it really sets the tone for the rest of the album making it the perfect single.
MusicWeek Staff: What skills/personal attributes are most important to being successful?
Emily Ryan: I think being hardworking and driven is the most important. There's a lot of people out there trying to do what I'm doing and a lot of talent but my mentality is and has always been I'll do whatever it takes to do this, I won't sleep, I'll work 4 jobs to pay for it, literally whatever and that's what i've been doing and it's been working for me so far.
MusicWeek Staff: How important do you think video or other visuals are to your music?
Emily Ryan: I think it's really important, I think the music itself is the most important because that's the baseline. However, I think visuals and live performance really helps people understand who you are as an artist so it's great to see. I have a video dropping soon, stay tuned!
MusicWeek Staff: What do you hope to achieve with your art?
Emily Ryan: I hope I can be an artist that grows with my fans and that stays around for a long time. I also hope I can be that artist that people grab a track to jam out to in the car or get ready for an event. I want to be a light in what can be a very dark world.
MusicWeek Staff: What advice would you give to new artists entering the industry today?
Emily Ryan: If you really love it, do it! I'm so happy, but be ready for the workload and the expenses. This is not an industry for the faint of heart or someone who is not ready to give it their all!
MusicWeek Staff: What sets your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon, about your sound and style?
Emily Ryan: I think I have a unique sound, I really brought in a lot of rock and blues elements and live instruments to pop and I feel like a lot of artist's don't do that as much anymore so between those elements and my voice itself it makes the album unique.
MusicWeek Staff: Has your music career/journey had a deliberate direction, or did it simply evolve organically?
Emily Ryan: For the most part it's been deliberate, I have a specific vibe, look and sound I'm trying to achieve but I let some be organic as well, you can't force too much. I want everything to feel natural and good as well.
MusicWeek Staff: Where can potential fans find out more about you?
Emily Ryan: You can find me on all over social media:
