MusicsWeek: When did you first realize you wanted to be a musician?
Friday Dies: I was maybe 13, I would crank up my dad's stereo and pretend I was putting on a concert in the mirror.
MusicsWeek: What was the first song you ever wrote, and what inspired it?
Friday Dies: That I cannot remember. What I do remember is when me and my brother each had a tape recorder, I would record a rhythm track on one, play it back while playing along, and record it into the 2nd. Sometimes I would play that back a 3rd time into the other recorder. Basically a ghetto 1 track.
MusicsWeek: Who are your biggest musical influences?
Friday Dies: Classical music, blues, and Dio were a huge influence and a lot of the early metal bands. I really like melodies with catchy beats.
MusicsWeek: Is there a particular song or album that has significantly influenced your career?
Friday Dies: Holy Diver album by Dio, I knew everything in it. As a small child, I remember Fur Elise, that was the moment I realized how deep a melody could reach into your soul.
MusicsWeek: How do your personal experiences shape your music?
Friday Dies: I like to think I dump all that I have ever felt into my music then I want to take the listener on a journey of empowerment. In the end, you emerge stronger and more confident than when you started.
MusicsWeek: What accomplishment in your career are you most proud of?
Friday Dies: Still feels relevant in some form.
MusicsWeek: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Friday Dies: Martial arts, planting trees, and living in the woods.
MusicsWeek: How do you deal with self-doubt or moments of insecurity?
Friday Dies: I stay grounded and remain focused. There are problem makers and problem solvers so be a problem solver and have a sense of humor. I work on the things I can change and smile at the things I can't.
MusicsWeek: What’s one piece of advice you wish you could give your younger self?
Friday Dies: You did good!
MusicsWeek: What’s something about you that fans might be surprised to learn?
