Kyng Kilo brings energetic fun with new single “Flex The Best”

Kyng Kilo is an artist bringing the fun back to the music. He wants people to have a good time listening to it and he has a good time making it. He wants people to play his new single,"Flex The Best,” which features Jimmy Rocket, in the gym, while driving around and while getting ready to go out. He hopes the energy of the song translates to the listeners and hopes they feel motivated and invigorated.

When speaking with Kyng Kilo he shared that he tends to lean towards dark trap production. But, he prefers the “old school” version of it - specifically the way it sounded in the late 2000s and early 2010s.  Listeners familiar with the days of Datpiff and mixtapes from Gucci Mane and Trap-A-Holics will be right at home with his music.

“Flex The Best” was produced by E-Rock, a producer Kyng Kilo found through YouTube. Outside of working with his in-house producer Vybez, he likes to go through beats in a room with collaborators he trusts. By finding beats this way, he’s able to bring attention to a producer he thinks deserves it.

The story behind the creation of "Flex The Best” is a testament to Kyng Kilo’s commitment as a person but also the power of timing and things aligning.

“The song was actually created at the last minute. I was working at the studio and had just left but the featured artist on it told me if I can come back we could do a song. We had already talked about doing one. I was pacing around and found the beat for the song on YouTube which was produced by E-Rock.” he said

Kyng Kilo was determined to have the song ready for Jimmy Rocket.

“I came up with the hook and the studio time was getting closer and I hoped Jimmy would like the song. I didn’t want to give him something I had already worked on previously, I wanted to give him something new. So I brought it to him after that 30 minutes to an hour I had before our studio time. I was a little nervous because this was my first major feature with a signed artist and there was a lot of pressure but it worked out.” he said.

Kyng Kilo’s commitment is a testament to his focus on the music but it goes deeper than that. Years ago, he survived a fire when he was younger and that left him not being able to walk for a year. However, one thing was there for him: music.

“The entire situation taught me patience and to always go for your dreams. The next moment could be your last moment. During that year, all I had was music whether it was writing things down or working on a beat pad. The music mentally helped me adjust back to everyday life.” he said.

Kyng Kilo’s name is a testament to his survival through music too. While the spelling of “Kyng” is a stylistic choice to set himself apart, the “Kilo” has a much deeper and significant meaning.

“The ‘kilo’ is a reference to the keloids I have from being burned.” he said.

Making strategic decisions is something that has been a key part of Kyng Kilo’s whole career. After moving to independence after being signed, he took the lessons he learned both practically and from a musical standpoint and applied them to the rest of his career going forward.

“The promotional aspect is the biggest difference. But, I’m making the connections I need to in order to get things done. And, I have full control over everything too and have to make more of my own decisions.” he said.

Kyng Kilo’s favorite part of making music is the impact it has on people. Whether it's a crowd who enjoyed his performance or people in the studio who are enjoying what they’re hearing from him, he loves seeing them respond in real time.

“I love the studio sessions. It starts with me and one other person and when I come out there’s four or five other people there. They don’t hear what me and the engineer have been working on until we finish so once they hear it, people start nodding their heads to the music and asking about who I am.” he said.

Kyng Kilo’s next project is slated to drop in either October or November and he’ll be handling multiple aspects of it. The features on the album will come from the same people he sits in the living room with to pick beats which he sees as musically trusted sources.

“I’m more than positive the world is going to like these songs.  Not just because of me, but because of the people featured on the album too.” he said.

“Flex The Best” featuring Jimmy Rocket is out now.
