The Last Dinner Party have taken an early lead in this week’s Official Albums Chart race with their second studio album From The Pyre (1).
If they can keep up the momentum and surpass Taylor Swift on Friday, the indie five-piece will celebrate their second Number 1 album, following their debut Prelude to Ecstasy reaching the top in 2024. But the London band will be watching their competition closely.
Tame Impala’s latest electronic release Deadbeat (2) currently holds second place at midweek. The project could give Kevin Parker’s group their best chart position in the UK so far, surpassing their previous peaks at Number 3 with Currents and The Slow Rush.
Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl starts the Official Chart Update at Number 3 after two weeks at the top. With Taylor leading in streaming numbers, a late comeback remains a real possibility.
Birkenhead singer Miles Kane is on track to break into the Top 5 with Sunlight In The Shadows (5). Matching his best chart performance with 2023’s One Man Band would mark another milestone in his career.
Icelandic group Of Monsters and Men may achieve their highest chart position since 2012’s My Head Is An Animal with their new album All is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade (6).
David Gilmour’s The Luck and Strange Concerts, a live companion to his Number 1 record Luck and Strange, currently sits at Number 7. The new release includes recordings from his European tour last year.
Sam Ryder’s second studio album Heartland is currently holding strong in the Top 10 (8).
Rounding out the Top 10 is 26-year-old Glasgow singer Rianne Downey, making her Official Albums Chart debut with The Consequence of Love (10).
Ashnikko is on track to secure her third Top 20 project with Smoochies (14).
Following his Mercury Prize win last Thursday, Sam Fender’s People Watching has made a powerful leap, climbing 58 spots midweek (17).
Simple Minds’ former Number 1 album Once Upon A Time is marking its 40th anniversary with a 5CD box set featuring rare material and a special ruby vinyl. The release has pushed the album back toward the Top 20 (19).
Swedish metal group Sabaton are expected to score their fourth Top 40 entry with Legends (21).
Meanwhile, fellow Swedish band Ghost are seeing their 2015 album Meliora return to the Top 40 thanks to a 10th anniversary vinyl edition released for National Album Day (37).
Closing out the midweek Top 40 is Queen’s 50th anniversary edition of A Night At The Opera (39), another National Album Day release.
