Artist Spotlight: Vale! ULB
The group is a fusion of regional backgrounds, including Cuba, New Orleans, Miami, Argentina, Colombia, and Peru. Drawing on the rich musical traditions of those places, from salsa to Latin pop to hip hop, the group is a force of nature. Their new single, “Devórame,” is a tasty contribution to their growing discography.
Join us as Vale! ULB takes us behind the curtain of their artistry, legacy, and future plans.
MusicsWeek: Where do you find inspiration for your lyrics and melodies?
Vale! ULB: Individually, the band members are inspired by their lived experiences. As a group, it is about the feeling of the music, their inside jokes, shared stories about their experiences, and, of course, band gossip.
MusicsWeek: What’s your favorite part of the recording process?
Vale! ULB: Feeling the songs come to life, as we joke and play pranks in the studio, we are all a little crazy, so it is entertaining to watch each writer bring something spontaneous.
MusicsWeek: How do you stay connected with the messages and themes in your music?
Vale! ULB: Being honest, singing about things that are felt and lived. We aren’t fictional writers, the songs reflect our lives and the crazy things we do.
MusicsWeek: How does your latest project reflect your growth as an artist?
Vale! ULB: For Val, "it is about being confident in my vocals more intentional and more comfortable telling our story vocally." For the band, it is growth in mixing genres, styles, and cultural influences.
MusicsWeek: What’s your favorite music video that you’ve made and why?
Vale! ULB: Boom Boom because we had our 5 minutes of fame acting. For Val, it was the process before the video of preparing to be a telenovela star.
MusicsWeek: Do you have a dream director or visual artist you’d love to work with?
Vale! ULB: We love to work with directors who understand how music and visual content intersect. Our current director Leo is so dope and always adds cool technology and futuristic styles. That said, if Bahs Lurman is reading this…well.
MusicsWeek: What message or theme do you hope listeners take away from your latest work?
Vale! ULB: Play hard, have fun, and be daring. We want our listeners to be confident and free, enjoy life! Bueno onda life love, and good vibes.
MusicsWeek: What was the most rewarding part of working on your latest project?
Vale! ULB: The most rewarding part is after the hard work, it comes together and listeners enjoying the music because for us our gift to them drives everything. Val loves the food breaks cuz we always eat well. Working in Amazon studios, travelling to New York and collaborating with Mr. Sonic
MusicsWeek: What’s the significance of the title of your latest project?
Vale! ULB: It means Devour Me…eat me up…get it? It was what Val was feeling sitting in Miami traffic.
MusicsWeek: Are there any upcoming projects or releases you’re excited about?
Vale! ULB: We are really excited about more collaborations. We are releasing a song featuring an amazing Colombian artist Goyo. We also just released a Tik remix with French DJ Jim Zerga and Mon Amour.
