NBA YoungBoy fans can take a breather, at least for now, as the Louisiana rapper appears to have locked in a release date for Slime Cry. According to a since deleted Instagram Story, the album is expected to arrive this Friday, January 16. He revealed the news by posting a live countdown that showed three days and 15 hours remaining.
The hesitation from fans is understandable, considering this is not the first promised date. Back in October 2025, YoungBoy announced that Slime Cry would drop on November 28, Black Friday. When that day arrived, supporters were left disappointed after the album failed to appear.
Making matters worse, the 26 year old stayed silent for nearly a full day, offering no immediate explanation for the delay. While he never directly addressed what went wrong, the “Nevada” songwriter did attempt to calm nerves with a couple of casual posts.
“Oh you want my album I forgot, Loading…,” he wrote, before later adding, “5ive I’m the sickest, You ready ??”
Any remaining optimism faded in early December. YoungBoy returned to Instagram and seemed to suggest the project might not be coming anytime soon, if at all. “Slime cry ‘I don’t think loading,’” he wrote, leaving fans confused once again.
Even with the past delays and mixed messages, this week could finally be the moment. Releasing the album on Friday would make sense, especially since it marks rap’s first real New Music Friday of the year.
One major reason is the competition, with A$AP Rocky set to return with his long awaited album Don’t Be Dumb, ending a nearly eight year gap between projects.
For YoungBoy, Slime Cry would be his first release since August 2025’s DESHAWN, a 13 track mixtape hosted by DJ Khaled. His most high profile release last year was Make America Slime Again, also known as MASA, which dropped in July. He also kept fans fed earlier in the year with More Leaks, a 20 song compilation of unreleased material that arrived in March.
