Olivia Rodrigo has unveiled a new cover of Drivers License by David Byrne to celebrate the song’s fifth anniversary.

The Good 4 U singer’s debut album SOUR reaches the milestone this May, and to mark the occasion Olivia has invited some of her “favourite artists ever” to reinterpret tracks from the record. Among them is the Talking Heads icon, who has delivered his own take on the chart topping lead single.

Olivia, 22, previously joined forces with David, 73, to perform the band’s 1983 classic Burning Down the House at the 2025 Governors Ball. That performance now appears as the B side to David’s cover on a limited edition 7 inch vinyl, which is available to pre order through Olivia’s official store.

Announcing the project on Instagram, she wrote: “SOUR is turning 5 years old this year! and to celebrate, i’m so excited to announce an upcoming series of reimagined SOUR covers from some of my favorite artists ever. we’re starting off insanely strong with an incredible reworking of ‘drivers license’ from one of my all time heroes, David Byrne. David is nothing short of a legend and I actually cried when I heard his version of this song. You can stream it now or pre order a 7 inch vinyl with his cover and our version of ‘Burning Down The House’ from gov ball. I’m stoked!! Go give it a listen. (sic)”

Reflecting on the anniversary, Olivia added: “happy 5 years of drivers license!!! looking back at these pics I feel like I look like a baby but it also feels like just yesterday lol. this song has totally changed my life in ways I still can’t totally wrap my head around. I’m forever grateful for this magical chapter and I can’t wait to scream red lights stop signs with u guys at every concert I play for the rest of my life! happy birthday DL (sic)”

Opening up about how their connection formed, David explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: “I saw her show here at Madison Square Garden and met her. I’m a fan.

“And she stayed in touch.”

He continued: “She said, ‘Hey, wanna join me?’

“I did say, ‘Hey, if you’re in town for a couple days, maybe we can work out a little choreo.’ I had to pinch myself and go, ‘Yeah, I’m really doing this.’”

David went on to compliment Olivia’s strong and genuine connection with her fans.
