Neil Young has made his entire music catalogue and additional material freely available to people living in Greenland.
With U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly making threats about taking control of Greenland, the 80 year old musician said he wanted to offer the country’s residents a gesture of goodwill, sending what he described as peace and love through music.
He explained his decision by saying: "I hope my music and music films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing from our unpopular and hopefully temporary government.
"It is my sincere wish for you to be able to enjoy all of my music in your beautiful Greenland home, in its highest quality. This is an offer of peace and love. All the music I made during the last 62 years is yours to hear. We do hope other organisations will follow in the spirit of our example."
Under the offer, residents of Greenland can sign up for a year of free access to Young’s complete digital archive, which also includes films and exclusive bonus content.
At the same time, Young has reiterated that he has no plans to return his music to Amazon, continuing his long running criticism of the company’s founder, Jeff Bezos.
Addressing fans via Neil Young Archives, he said: "Amazon is owned by Jeff Bezos, a billionaire backer of the president," he stated.
"The president's international policies and his support of ICE make it impossible for me to ignore his actions. If you feel as I do, I strongly recommend that you do not use Amazon. There are many ways to avoid Amazon and support individual Americans and American companies that supply the same products.
"My music will never be available on Amazon, as long as it is owned by Bezos."
Back in October, the Harvest Moon songwriter publicly criticised Bezos and Amazon in a blunt blog post, calling out his backing of the Trump administration.
In that post, he wrote: "Forget Amazon and Whole Foods [supermarket chain owned by Amazon]. Forget Facebook. Buy local. Buy direct. [Jeff] Bezos supports this government. It does not support you or me."
The rock icon continued with a longer message, adding: "The time is here. Forget Amazon. Soon my music will not be there. It is easy to buy local. Support your community. Go to the local store.
"Don’t go back to the big corporations who have sold out America. We all have to give up something to save America from the Corporate Control Age it is entering.
"They need you to buy from them. Don’t. They shut down our government. Your income. Your safety. Your family’s health security. Take America Back.
"Together, stop buying from the big corporations, support local business. Do the right thing. Show who you are."
Young had previously pulled his catalogue from Spotify in protest over the platform hosting The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, which he felt was spreading false information about vaccines.
He later restored his music to Spotify in 2024, explaining that other streaming services were also carrying similar content and that it was impossible to remove his work from every platform.
At the time, Young released a statement saying: "My decision comes as music services Apple and Amazon have started serving the same disinformation podcast features I had opposed at Spotify.
"I cannot just leave Apple and Amazon, like I did Spotify, because my music would have very little streaming outlet to music lovers at all, so I have returned to Spotify, in sincere hopes that Spotify sound quality will improve and people will be able to hear and feel all the music as we made it.
"Qobuz and Tidal, where my music is presented, are all High res as well."
