Cody Johnson added a touch of classic R&B to this year’s Stagecoach Festival.
During his headlining set on Friday, April 24, the 38 year old country star invited Boyz II Men to join him onstage for a performance of the group’s iconic 1994 hit “On Bended Knee.”
Johnson started the song on his own before being joined by Boyz II Men members Nathan Morris, Wanyá Morris and Shawn Stockman, who helped carry the performance as fans in Indio swayed along to the nostalgic moment.
“On Bended Knee,” taken from the group’s second album II, spent six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1994.
This is not the first time Boyz II Men have crossed into other genres recently. In March, the Philadelphia group made a surprise appearance during the Listening Room’s 20th anniversary celebration at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, where they joined Brett Young for a performance of his song “In Case You Didn’t Know.”
Johnson’s Stagecoach set arrives shortly after he announced his upcoming album Banks of the Trinity, which is set to drop June 26 through COJO Music and Warner Records Nashville.
The new project follows his 2023 release Leather and its deluxe edition, which included tracks such as “Dirt Cheap” and “The Fall” and earned album of the year at the 2024 CMA Awards.
Elsewhere at Stagecoach on Friday, rising star Ella Langley surprised the audience by bringing out Theo Von for a duet of her collaboration with Riley Green, “You Look Like You Love Me.”
Stagecoach 2026 continues with a headline performance from Lainey Wilson on Saturday, April 25, followed by a closing set from Post Malone on Sunday.
