Bob Britt Shuts Down Rumors He Was Fired From Bob Dylan’s Band

Bob Dylan guitarist Bob Britt has made it clear that he was not "fired" by the legendary singer after recently stepping away from the touring band.

Britt had been performing alongside the Mr. Tambourine Man icon since 2019, but over the weekend he officially said goodbye to his fellow band members.

Joel Paterson has now reportedly become Dylan's only guitarist and made his live debut with the band during a concert in Austin, Texas, on Monday (29.07.26).

Britt first hinted at his departure by posting a photo of an airplane on Facebook alongside the caption: "Sayanora Bobby."

When one follower asked what had happened, Britt gave a brief response, writing: "I quit."

The post was later deleted, leading many fans to believe Dylan had dismissed him from the band.

Britt later returned to social media to clear up the rumors, explaining that leaving the tour was entirely his own decision and that he would not be sharing the personal reasons behind it.

Responding to the speculation, he wrote: "Apparently there are quite a few threads out there with people speculating about my departure from the Bob tour. I’d like to clear it up. I was not fired but left of my own accord for reasons I would prefer to keep private. I will miss my band mates

and crew. I am looking forward to getting back to doing sessions (give me a call) and also finishing up Etta’s gospel record.

As far as any touring goes, we will see what the future holds. Meanwhile, I have some flower beds to weed."

His departure marks the latest lineup change for Dylan after guitarist Doug Lancio was recently replaced by Julian Lage.

Dylan's current North American tour is scheduled to conclude in August with a final stop in Nashville.

At the same time, fans are continuing to speculate that new music from Dylan could be on the horizon.

Last summer, it was reported that he spent two days recording at White Lake Studios in Albany, New York, alongside “members of his band”.

In a press release, the studio's CEO David Bourgeois said: “We want every artist and guest to feel relaxed and at home.

"We’ve had the privilege of working with many remarkable talents over the years, but this visit was truly special.

"I’m incredibly proud of our team.”

No additional information about what was recorded during those sessions has been made public.

Dylan launched his Rough And Rowdy Ways world tour in 2021 and has continued surprising audiences with deep cuts including I Shall Be Released and You Ain't Goin' Nowhere. During a concert in Dublin in November 2025, he also performed A Rainy Night In Soho as a tribute to late Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan.

Most recently, he once again brought back I Shall Be Released and You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere to his live set.
