Bruce Dickinson records new solo album at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson has shared early details about his next solo album, which was created at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606.

Dickinson’s most recent record, ‘The Mandrake Project’, arrived in 2024. It marked his first solo album since ‘Tyranny Of Souls’ was released in 2005.

Beyond the music, ‘The Mandrake Project’ was designed as a wider multimedia concept that paired the album with an adult comic book series consisting of 12 quarterly issues.

During a recent conversation with VSX, Dickinson revealed that another solo record is now in progress. The album is expected to arrive through BMG in 2027.

Discussing its connection to his previous project, Dickinson explained: “It’s kind of standalone. There’s one song that has a bit of something to do with ‘Mandrake’,” he said. “Now, the album is heavy as shit. I’m not digging into ‘Mandrake’. I think ‘Mandrake’ has a life now on a comic book level, so it can just go on the basis of story and everything else. I don’t need to associate music with it unless it’s a really good idea.”

He also spoke about his desire to avoid repeating ideas from earlier albums, adding: “You want to move on and put different nuance on things. It’s like, I would say, if you have an amazing girlfriend and you start thinking, ‘Yeah, I’m getting a little bit bored,’ or something else like that, just turn the lights down and turn it a different way, and you see a side that you think, ‘Oh, my God, she’s absolutely incredible.’ Just the red light there or the green or whatever, and you see, you see the same person in a different day, in a different light.”

Explaining his approach to creativity, Dickinson continued: “Music is something which you try not to stick too much of a format, but you are still within a particular… I’m within a particular style, for sure. But I try and vary it as much as I can.”

The forthcoming solo album was recorded during January and February at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Northridge, California. Brendan Duffey worked on the project as producer.

In other news, Dickinson recently joined Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and The Coverups to perform David Bowie’s ‘All The Young Dudes’ in San Diego. Dickinson previously recorded the song for his 1990 album ‘Tattooed Millionaire’.

Iron Maiden also recently transferred 50 per cent of the rights to their music and likenesses to Pophouse Entertainment.

The group are also included among the 2026 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame inductees. The class also features Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Joy Division, New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan. However, Iron Maiden have already confirmed that they will not attend the ceremony.
